Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9th May, 2019.

9th May, 2019.

Yes: I’ve finally managed to work out how to do a screen recording on my phone.

It’s easy.

On the model of Huawei I have, a 2018 P-Smart, you press the Volume up and Power, at the same time.

THEN press the on-screen stop button, when you want it to finish.

Once that’s done?

The result video will be in the Gallery.

Now …

If we can avoid mentioning this to my nephew, Jude?   Who wants to be a YouTuber?

I’d appreciate it.

~≈§≈~

Just as a quick thought?

I actually mentioned all that, last night: once I reviewed Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.

It’s worth a watch: Zac Efron does a good job as the charming — and incredibly media savvy — serial killer, Ted Bundy.

Just don’t expect a Silence of The Lambs style thriller.

When what you get is a very competent courtroom drama: that’s based on both a biography … and surviving courtroom footage*!

Trial by media … ?   What can I tell you … ?

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Badwolf†, Olga‡, and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with all three scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1) 9th May is Anniversary of Dianetics Day.   A big festival for the Church of whom … ?
Q2) Which (then) country joined NATO: on 9th May, 1955?
Q3) 9th May, 1949, saw the birth of singer-songwriter, Billy Joel.   What was the name of his debut album?
Q4) 9th May, 1962, saw the birth of singer, Paul Heaton.   Name either one of the    two bands he was the lead singer for.
Q5) The Treaty of Windsor — the world’s oldest diplomatic and still in use alliance — was signed on 9th May, 1386.   Between England … and where?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 8th May is World Red Cross and Crescent Day.   The International Committee of the Red Cross was founded in which country?
A1) Switzerland.   (From what I remember at school?   The movement’s logo, the Red Cross, itself, is a version of the Swiss flag.)
Q2) If you’re in Helston — in Cornwall, in the UK — you’ll be watching, or taken part in … what?
A2) The Furry Dance.   (It’s also known as the Flora, or Floral, Dance.)
Q3) 8th May, 1958, saw the birth of writer, Roddy Doyle.   Which of his novels was turned into a 1991 film, directed by Alan Parker?
A3) The Commitments.   (I always liked their cut of Mr Pitiful)
Q4) 8th May, 2012, saw the death of author, Maurice Sendak.   His best known work, published in 1963, was called what?
A4) Where the Wild Things Are.   (The film version’s interesting … )
Q5) Finally … 8th May, 1945, saw the announcement of Victory in Europe Day: marking the European end of World War 2.   Who made the official announcement about VE Day: in the UK?
A5) Winston Churchill.
Here’s a thought …
“We’re being held to ransom by these pinstripe Scargills …”.
Sir Vince Cable, born 9 May 1943.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Bundy’s trial in Utah, the one depicted in the film?   Was the first trail to be televised …

†        Morning, Badwolf.   How are you with serial killers?   Last night’s film was rather good.

‡        You know, that reminds of a Terry Pratchett novel called Reaper Man, Olga.   There’s a couple of werewolf characters in that.   And yes: one’s a wolf that turns into a human at the full moon … !   (Oh, arty black and white: boy, do bands like that!)

^        Oh, he is that, Debbi!   (Oh, apparently, avuncular means uncle like: which I didn’t know until I looked it up …)

Q1) Scientology
Q2) West Germany
Q3) Cold Spring Harbor
Q4) The Housemartins (and the Beautiful South). Two big favourites of mine.
Q5) Portugal
I'll see if I can get hold of the movie at some point. I enjoy a good courtroom film. (I am reading a book called Furious Hours about a case that Harper Lee followed, it seems intent on writing a book about it but never did, that so far is fascinating (the book meanders here and there, but in interesting directions, so I don't mind). This article talks about the book and the man...

I suspect you'll lose your phone to your nephew if you aren't careful... ;)
