Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8th May, 2019

8th May, 2019.

There we go: I’ve officially seen The Howling.

And, frankly?

I was distinctly underwhelmed.

The first half?   Drags as only a slow movie can.

It picks up in the second …

But boy, those effects loo dated, these days.

Especially when you consider it was released a few months before An American Werewolf in London*.

Ahem!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Badwolf†, Olga‡, and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Debbi and Olga scoring five out of five, and Badwolf on four..

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 8th May is World Red Cross and Crescent Day.   The International Committee of the Red Cross was founded in which country?
Q2) If you’re in Helston — in Cornwall, in the UK — you’ll be watching, or taken part in … what?
Q3) 8th May, 1958, saw the birth of writer, Roddy Doyle.   Which of his novels was turned into a 1991 film, directed by Alan Parker?
Q4) 8th May, 2012, saw the death of author, Maurice Sendak.   His best known work, published in 1963, was called what?
Q5) Finally … 8th May, 1945, saw the announcement of Victory in Europe Day: marking the European end of World War 2.   Who made the official announcement about VE Day: in the UK?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) Geoffrey Dummer presented a scientific paper: on 7th May, 1952.   What did that paper outline: the diode, the integrated circuit or the cathode ray tube?
Q2) The STS-49 Space shuttle mission was launched: on 7th May, 1992.   It was the maiden flight of which Space Shuttle?
A2) The Space Shuttle Endeavour.
Q3) The party of Prime Minister Ian Smith, won a huge win in the elections held on 7th May, 1965.   In which (then) nation?
A3) Rhodesia.
Q4) Vladimir Putin assumed office as President of Russia: on 7th May, 2000.   Who replaced him as President, in 2008?
Q5) Finally … ?   The Council of Europe was founded: at a congress that started on 7th May, 1948.   That congress was held in which city?
A5) The Hague.
Here’s a thought …
“To claim that music is more important than oxygen would be trite and sentimental. It would also be true.”
Cigar Box Banjo, Roddy Doyle, born 8th May, 1958.
And a cartoon directed by Bob Clampett: as it’s his birthday … …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        He’s got no pants on!

†        Cheers, Badwolf: I think we’re coping, but thank you …

‡        Cheers, Olga!   I don’t know HOW we managed: it was down using Windows Movies Maker, which was … well … !   (He want’s to record his games: then do green screen.   I think me and Jelly have a LOT to answers for!)

^        Cute?   Hang on, Debbi, slow down … !   :D.  (We had to use Windows Movie Maker for that: it’s HIDEOUS!)

Your references to werewolves made me think of this fantastic song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2SwrG5qHEE
The lyrics are based on a novel that tells the opposite story, one of a wolf (it seems vegetarian) who after being bitten, turns into a man when there’s a full moon. I remember the group, from my youth. They were fabulous and, of course, of an era when music videos were an art.
