Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23rd December, 2019.

23rd December, 2019.

Yep: it’s a Monday morning: my benefit’s gone through …

And, frankly, I’ve got to get my rear out of bed: so I can pay bills and get shopping.

It’s …

Well, it’s that time of the month.

So to speak!

~≈†≈~

Hmmm …

I got a message, this morning.

Through Facebook’s phone based, Messenger app.

One that vanished by the time I got to my desktop, to double check.

I’ve managed to track down the person’s whose name was on the thing, just to let them know there’s possibly an issue.

But beyond that … ?

Well … I’m blowed if I know what’s happening!

~≈†≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 23rd December, 1815, saw the original publication of Jane Austen’s Emma.   Who’s due to play Emma, in the upcoming 2020 film version of the novel?
Q2) Yohl Ik’nal was crowned as Queen of Palenque: on 23rd December, 583.   Palenque is in what’s now which country?
Q3) The transistor was patented on 23rd December, 1947.   By which company: Intel, Bell Labs or Nvidia?
Q4) 23rd December, 1925, saw the birth of publisher, Rayner Unwin.   He worked for his father, George Unwin, as a children’s book reviewer: which of Tolkien’s books did the review?
Q5) Finally … ?   23rd December, 1946, saw the birth of TV writer, John Sullivan.   Which of his series saw Stephen Greif play Harry Fenning?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 22nd December, 2019, is this year’s Winter Solstice, in the Northern hemisphere.   It’s what: the shortest day of the year, or the longest day of the year?
A1) The shortest.
Q2) It’s also what: the shortest night of the year, or the longest night of the year?
A2) The longest.
Q3) To many pagans, the Winter solstice is know as which Y?
A3) Yule.
Q4) Yaldā Night is the Solstice Festival, marked, where: Iran, Iraq or India?
A4) Iran.
Q5) Finally … ?   A solstice marks the longest day or night of the year.   What name is given to the days when the days and nights are of equal length?
A5) Equinoxes.
Here’s a thought …
“Not a very good piece of literary criticism, but in those happy days, no second opinion was needed; if I said it was good enough to publish, it was published.”
Rayner Unwin, 23 December 1925 – 23 November 2000.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Hmmm … you’d need to get the licensing sorted, Olga: and languages.   But a surgery-tutorial YouTube channel sounds like a good idea.   It’s possibly one for teaching hospitals and medical journals, I think.   The Lancet has a blog aimed at students, it seems: although that’s not the same thing, obviously.   Oh, boy … multilingual acronyms!   The mind boggles^.   That means … well … all you can do is get singing.   And as you’ve mentioned silicon chips, and given the day …

†        Glad to know it’s help, Debbi!   Oh … I’ve a thirteen question one on the thirteenth of January: just so you know in advance.   It DOES give me an excuse to use a Bill Haley^ tune, though‡ …

‡        Ye GODS, but that guitarist did some licks, there!

^        Olga, Debbi, pointless trivia for both of you: if you can’t get to those videos with your usual browser, Tor will take you straight to them …

Q2) Mexico
Q3) Bell Labs
Q4) The Hobbit
Q5) Citizen Smith
Thanks, Paul. We shall see... And so far, I can get to the videos OK, at least those. (I carried on having trouble with internet, and this morning it was the Wifi side of things that would not work. They managed to get it going again remotely, but we shall see. So, again, if I disappear, it's probably technical problems, although, in this part of the country, one never knows these days...)
Oh, there has been a spat of weird message on Messenger talking about videos, etc. Those tend to be from hacked accounts, the same as sometimes happens on Twitter. But it might be something else...
