Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th December, 2019

14th December, 2019

Right … It’s the last weekend before the last week of my course.

And … ?

Well, I’m looking forward to finishing it.

It’s been nice to get out of the house to do something productive.

Or vaguely productive.

At any rate, I now have a couple of days free: and can get on with my laundry.

Now …

Does anyone have an ice box?

I think I’m going to need to defrost my fridge.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring four out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 14th December is the feast day of Saint Spyridon.   He’s traditionally depicted holding a sprig of what: basil, thyme or rocket?
Q2) Hugh Gaitskell replaced Clement Attlee, on 14th December, 1955.   As leader of which UK political party?
Q3) UN Security Council Resolution 109 was adopted on 14th December, 1955.   Name any one of the countries that join the UN, as a result.
Q4) 14th December, 1935, Saw the birth of actress, Lee Remick.  In which film did she play Stella?
Q5) Finally … ?   14th December, 1969, saw the birth of actress, Natascha McElhone.   Who did she play in The Other Boleyn Girl?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 13th December, 2019 is a Friday 13th.   When was the last Friday 13th?
Q2) In Spanish speaking countries, the unlucky 13th is on a what: Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday?
A2) Tuesday.
Q3) In Italy, what’s the unlucky day: Tuesday 13th, Friday 13th or Friday 17th?
Q4) The first US film called Friday the 13th was released in which year?
A4) 1916.   (Disambiguation pages are a boy’s best friend.)
Q5) Finally … ?   Which seminal rock album was released on Friday, 13th February, 1970?
Here’s a thought …
“A hero is a goddam stupid thing to have in the first place and a general block to anything you might wanta accomplish on your own.”
Lester Bangs, December 14, 1948 – April 30, 1982.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Yeah, I think I’m with you there, Olga‡: the results are deeply disappointing, but they’re not surprising.   There’s been a bit of talk: not just about Scottish independence, but Irish reunification.   The pro Brexit Unionist parties have been replaced by pro-remain parties.   East Belfast’s, who’s voted for Protestant DUP MPs for years?   Has gone to Sinn Féin!   Which is like saying Madrid’s now got a ETA Deputy!   And, yes: I’ve got that same-ish impression about Scotland and Catalonia: they both sound a bit left of centre … 😀   Politicians on reality TV?   Hmm … the final for Strictly Come Dancing’s on tonight.   Having seen Anne Widdecombe dancing … what were you saying about big jokes … ?

†        Cheers, Debbi‡.   What can I tell you?   Apart from moving to Scotland’s got some appeal: as has moving to Catalonia.   Or California, if it decides to secede!   And it’s good to know you’re in.   You know, Nik Nak’s Old Faithful would make for a interesting spinoff title …

‡        Oh, about that 1916 movie?   Ummm … … … … …

Q1) Basil
Q2) The Labour Party
Q3) Spain, would you believe!
Q4) The Running Man
Q5) Mary Boleyn (For what I’ve read, the real Mary Boleyn went on to have a much happier life than her sister)
Oh, Un Chien Andalou once watched, never forgotten. It makes no sense, but the images are quite impressive. I've heard (well, saw, as I remember there was an excellent series about Federico Garcia Lorca that I watched many years back) that Lorca got quite upset because he thought Dalí and Buñuel were taking the mickey with the movie (because he was from Andalucia, and he hadn't gone with them to Paris). By the way, a British actor played Lorca...

Thinking of decamping to Scotland? Things are looking dire, huh? :)

In my case, Canada is looking better all the time. :)
