Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser 17-11-2021: Suez!

17th November, 2021.

It’s a Wednesday.

You’d noticed, hadn’t you … ?

At any rate, it’s a Wednesday where I’m not scheduled for a meeting, a pest controller, or some sort of medical appointment.

That’s possibly a result.

~≈¥≈~

Oh …

Bless her, my mother managed to find an old Mac mouse and keyboard sitting around.

And I’ve just found the power cable/brick for Bruce: my 2007 era Mac mini.

All I need now … ?

Is a VGA monitor: given that, I can access some of the older games that macOS no longer supports.

The Brentwood Gazette’s Weekly Teaser

Oh, but isn’t it nice to have some classic TV on … ?

It is, isn’t it … ?   I have to admit, classic Dr Who fan that I am, I’ve a vintage Patrick Troughton era story on, in the background.

The War Games, if you must known, in all its monochrome glory.

Somehow, it seems worth the time.

~≈Î≈~

But that’s not why I’m writing.

Really … !

The Brentwood Gazette’s Weekly Teaser — 6-11-2013: SUEZ!

Oh, now that’s sad …

Seems a four year old girl in Leicestershire was killed, after being attacked by the family’s pet dog.

Sad … ?   No, I’m thinking that it’s tragic, as all these things always are.

I’m ALSO expecting there’s going be an almighty fuss: both pro-and-anti dog.

All I can wonder is simple, really … ?   However devastating this is for the parents, I have to ask if they were keeping a seriously close eye on both dog or child.   Although I’m as aware as anyone — having occasionally looked after my three-year-old nephew — that it only takes a few minutes for a child to get into mischief: would only take Jude a few minutes, as a nasty thought, to get into trouble with an otherwise friendly dog.

Hmmm …

Fingers crossed, there, I think.

~≈Î≈~

Moving on … ?   Moving on, it’s a Wednesday: which means, obviously, that it’s time for the Gazette’s  weekly Teaser set.

Here’s this week’s, covered by the usual Creative Commons License* …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18th November, 2021

18th November, 2021.

I’ve got To admit: I’ve been following Star Trek — in it’s various forms — for some years.

Recently?   That’s included Star Trek Discovery and Star Trek Picard.

Today?   Was due to see the US release of Star Trek Discovery’s fourth season.

Internationally: both inside and outside the US?   It was due to be released, tomorrow.

Except that release has been cancelled: as Netflix, the international distributer, has lost the rights to the series.

The series will be aired internationally, next year.

Personally … ?

I’m not happy: as, from what I can tell, many others.

Can I make a suggestion?

What I think’s going to happen is the Paramount+ are going to lose money.

Why?

Because a lot of annoyed fans will download TorBrowser, so they can visit torrent tracking sites like Pirate Bay, LimeTorrent or KAT*.

Then install torrent clients, to download any torrent files they’ve got from the sites.

Including the first episode of Discovery, which is on Pirate Bay as we speak.

Not that I’m encouraging it.

But I can understandably perfectly why annoyed fans would go for that.

In allowing this … ?

Paramount and CBS will loss cash.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7th November, 2021

7th November, 2021.

Yes, it’s officially official: I’m baby sitting tonight.

Well … I say babysitting: I’m looking after my ten-year-nephew, Jude, tonight.

Granted, it means my review of the next episode of Dr Who will be delayed.

But hopefully?

Hopefully, Pizza will be involved.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15-5-2024 — Viva Las Vegas

15th May, 2024: Viva Las Vegas.

Right … it’s now Wednesday …

And frankly, I’ve caught up with my sleep!

Which is definitively nice.

I’ll see if I can get more sleep … after my nephew goes home.

He’s due to spend the evening, today.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 11-4-2017

Right …

I’m going to apologise for getting this up, late.

But, would you believe it?

My main hard drive’s been playing up, over the past couple of days.

My morning’s started, not with a gentle, civilised, post: ruminating on the state of whatever happened to grab my attention, possibly THAT United Airlines.

But spending an hour — a teeny weenie hour, for heavens sakes! —respiring the thing from my Time Machine back up: after being up half the night, doing an in-depths permissions check!.

I’m getting seriously worried, though: not only am I late, I’m getting the old clicking noise from that main drive.

Not good sign.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th March 2025.

24th March, 2025.

Right then … it’s Monday morning.

And, of course, I’m up early.

Mondays are Weight Management day: and I’m hoping I’ve lost some!

~≈⚖️≈~

Just so you know?

Post Nosferatu, I’ve seen another movie!

Hopefully, I’ll have the review up by tomorrow: but … ?

See if you can guess what I watched … !

~≈👽≈~

Hmmm …

Overnight?

I had a comment on this Teaser post.

One that discussed the idea the US president was a Russian agent: and trying to sell a book about it.

The president’s a lot of things.

Including an idiot.

And possibly an agent for Putin.

But … ?

I felt the commenter was only interested in selling their book: rather than any kind of conversation about the idea.

I pressed ‘Delete’ …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-11-2024 — Culture Day

3rd November, 2024: Culture Day.

I’m a silly idiot!

I was doing dinner, last night: and filling the sink so I could wash up.

And … ?

And … ?

Really wasn’t paying attention to the sink.

It ended up flooding my kitchen … and knackering my washing machine.

In fact it was the various buzzing sounds from the washing machine, as the thing’s mother board was soaked, that grabbed my attention: and told me that I’d missed something!

I’m now facing an expensive repair: or possibly even a replacement.

OK, at the moment, I can afford it.

But it’s my own damn fault that I’m spending money I didn’t need to spend!

There’s possibly comments* …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1-1-2021: The Month of January

1st January, 2022.

Right … it’s now officially 2022.

Frankly?

I’m wishing you — and my regular readers — a Happy New Year.

Here’s hoping it’s better than last year.

Or, at least, less diseased.

COVID’s been hanging around for a while.

Oh, one news item that DID stick in my mind?

You possibly will have seen singing the Robert Burns tune, Auld Lang Syne, on New Year’s Eve: and standing in a circle, with arms cross-linked with those of their neighbours.

It turns out the ritual is linked to the Freemasons: it’s an old tradition of theirs.

Something I wasn’t too surprised about.

Burns was a Mason, after all.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30th October 2021

30th October, 2021.

Yes: it’s officially official.

I’ve managed to see the Denis Villeneuve version of Dune: or Dune Pt One, we should say.

Dune Pt 1

I’ll have my video and written review up, tonight.

But … ?

It’s impressive.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27-7-2017: E. Gary Gygax

Ha!

I have to admit, I like Apple products.

I can’t afford enough of them, frankly, but I like them.

You know there’s a big fuss about the upcoming, and expensive, iMacPro?

Yeah, wouldn’t mind one of them.

My point?

Is that I tend to follow news about the company.

Oh, and presidential Tweets.

According to Donald Trump?

Apple are going to build three big plants in the US.

Which are going to be huge.   Bigly.   What-have-you.

Apple’s response was entirely appropriate, very in character and easily predicted by anyone whose watched the company for more than ten minutes.

They — altogether, now — declined to comment.

What gets me?   Is the look on the face of Apple boss, Time Cook, in that picture.

‘Declined to comment’ is exactly the phrase.

~≈Œ≈~

In other news?

In other news, it seems the Premier League has won a court order: that means it can get Internet Services Providers — the people you buy your internet connection from — to block illegal streams of its matches.

The kind of stream that — on what’s called a fully loaded Kodi box — lets you watch a football match for free.   Ones that, normally, you have to pay for.

I’m concerned that — if handled incorrectly — this will have a bad effect on the open source software movement.

I also think that it won’t be long before anyone providing ways of illegally streaming paid-for content … will soon find other ways of doing it.

Give it a while …

Friday, 29 October 2021

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th October, 2021.

29th October, 2021.

You know, it’s a Friday.

You can tell, can’t you?

Frankly, that means the day is — for me — exercise free, and not involving making videos.

So I’ve plenty of time to watch a film.

Whether I do or I don’t is a whole other thing.

But there’s certainly one I want to see.

~≈Ÿ≈~

Sometimes, coming home with shopping can be interested.

Especially when you can a phone call when you walk through the door with a couple of bags of shopping.

It turns out the manager of the local post office saw my application and wants to interview me on Monday.

At one.

Can someone remind me to put my shirts in the wash … ?

Cheers … !

Nik Nak’s Friday Question Set — 7-10-2016

RIGHT!

That’s THAT sorted … !

I’m job-hunting at the mo.

Although I start a new job on Monday: in Chelmsford.

Which could have gone hideously wrong: if, as things looked like they were going to do, this morning, and I was not going to get help for the first season ticket to work.

Thankfully?

I’ve not got that sorted out: as the Job Centre’s decided to give me a one off grant.

It’s all good!

The Daily Teaser …

You know, I’ve got to admit, I’ve got admit, I’ve got the BBC’s News channel on in the background.

Where they’ve just mentioned — again — an upcoming wedding that’s had a bit of airtime, recently.

But can I tell you something … ?

Can I … ?

There’s been a joke circulating, already.

Apparently, Prince William is now available on iTunes.

And Kate Middleton is getting married to The Beatles …

On a more serious note, though, while I’m happy for them, I also know that on Tuesday — the day of the announcement — was developing into a bad news day, until that particular bombshell dropped.

Cynical … ?

Certainly.

Lets get moving on, shall we … ?

Before I say something outrageous …

The Daily Teaser …

Oy …

You wouldn’t think a weekend off would be so tiring, would you …

After all, I did manage to catch a film, last night: Dirty Harry, so you know, I’ll probably try and post about it, later.

At any rate, before I go on, I also thought I should show you this link to this weekend’s episode of Click: or part of it, at least, very little thing about PC security.

Let’s move on, shall we … ?

Yes, lets …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 2nd November 2024.

2nd November, 2024.

Right, then: it’s officially Saturday.

And it’s one that’s going to be quiet: bar making a few videos.

Which — hopefully — will be in 4k.

That’s amazing to me: that an older model Mac mini can make videos in that kind of resolution.

Especially when the first Mini I got couldn’t handle the flame animations in Keynote!

Technology … !

The Friday Question Set — 14-09-2012

Now that’s an oddity …

I have to admit, I’ve been doing doing some tinkering with my kid sister’s Windoze-based laptop: after receiving a dodgy patch from McAfee, it was refusing to hook up to the internet.

Whilst my mum’s Ubuntu based desktop — and my other kid sister’s iPhone — hooked up perfectly.

Through the same home router, I should add.

LORD know’s what’s happening, there, but it’s hooked up through mine, perfectly, under both Windoze and with an Ubuntu live disc.

Hmmm …
