The Daily Teaser — 11-6-2012

Hmmm …

That should be interesting.

Seems Radio 4’s Today program is going to be running a series on London gangs.

The first, the one that’s playing now, is rather interesting …

Hmmm …

Might just have to look it up again on iPlayer, later, just to make sure I’ve caught it all.

Let’s get moving on, shall we … ?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi putting in her answers: and , along with passing on an observation from her sister, Nancy, that many actors seem tinyº, she also manage to score 6 out of 6.

Let’s see how she — and you — do with today’s questions, shall we?   Here they are, along the ‘How To’, License and video …

Q1) 11th June, 1184 BC, marks the sacking and burning of the city of Troy: name any of the goddess that — according to one Greek legend — were responsible for starting it …
Q2) More to the point, in which modern country are the ruins of Troy … ?
Q3) 11th June, 1955, saw at 77 people killed at which French race … ?
Q4) 11th June, 1944, saw the last battleship commissioned by the US Navy: what was its name … ?
Q5) 11th June, 1963, saw Frank Morris, John Anglin and Clarence Anglin because — allegedly — become the only men to escape from where … ?
Q6) And finally … 11th June, 2004, saw the Cassini-Huygens probe make its closest flyby of which of Saturn’s moons … ?
And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 10th June, 1935, saw the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous: name either of the founders.   A1) Dr Robert Smith and William Bill Wilson.
Q2) 10th June, 1967, saw the end of which war … ?   A2) The Six Day War.
Q3) More to the point, name any of the countries who were fighting it.   A3) Israel, Syria, Egypt and Jordan.
Q4) 10th June, 2000, saw which London Bridge closed … ?   A4) The Millennium Bridge.
Q5) One year later, 10th June, 2001, saw Pope John Paul 2nd canonize the first female saint …  from which country … ?   A5) Lebanon.   (Saint Rafqa, so you know.)
Q6) And finally … 10th June, 1936, saw the founding of Soyuzmultfilm: the Soviet era company that specialized in what sort of films … ?   A6) Animated films.
Enjoy those, everyone: I’ll leave you with these two tunes from birthday girl, Hazel Scott*.

*        And seemingly, that’s Charlie Mingus on bass!

º        Oh, I don’t know, Debbi: I seem to remember reading somewhere that Matt Smith’s 6’2”, and that Karen Gillan’s 5’11”.   (I’m half convinced that’s part of the reason for the re-design of the Daleks.   That … and the fact I know some of the operators have complained about how the older (bronze) Daleks were incredibly crampedª.)

ª        Those bronze ones were about 5’5”: eye to eye to Billie Piper, in other words.   But ALSO had animatronic domes, which meant the operators inside the things had to crouch.   The newer, multicoloured models meant they could sit more comfortably.
