The Daily Teaser — 15-3-2016

Oh, ouch …

Or  possibly ‘sniffle’ …

I think we can SAFELY say that, when I head into town, later … ?

I’m going to have to pick up some Lemsip.

Or, at least, some cough mixture.

I think we can safely say I’m coming down with something …

~≈Â≈~

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: scoring six out of six in the process.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1) 15th March is what the Ancient Romans called the Ides of March.   Name any of the three months of the Roman calendar when the Ideas were on the fifteenth.
Q2) 15th March, 1962, saw Britain’s Liberal Party win a by-election: in which then constituency?
Q3) Tsar Nicholas 2nd of Russia abdicated the throne, on 15th March, 1917.   Nicholas was the last ever Tsar: and the last Tsar from which dynasty?
Q4) 15th March, 1922, saw King Faud 1st became the king: of which North African country?
Q5) Finally … 15th March, 1985, saw computer company, Symbolics, become the first company to register an internet domain.   The domain was symbolics dot … what: .com, .org or .gov … ?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 14th March is the earliest date of Lazarus Saturday.   In Eastern Orthodox Churches, it’s the day before what?
Q2) It’s named for Lazarus of Bethany, the man Jesus is said to have raised from the dead.   This Lazarus is found in which book of the Bible?
A2) The Gospel of John.   (The other is mention in Luke’s Gospel.   The two are sometimes said to be the same figure, but many argue they’re not.)
Q3) Gunmen attempt to shoot Gerry Adams: on 14th March, 1984: in Belfast.   Adams was and is an important figure, in Sinn Fein: and a senior member of the Provisional … what?
A3) Provisional Irish Republican Army, or IRA.
Q4) Anne Miller was treated by Orvan Hess, and John Bumstead: on 14th March, 1942.   In doing so, Anne became the first patient treated with what?
Q5) 14th March, 2007, saw the first celebration of World Maths Day.   Which Greek philosopher defined mathematics as “the science of quantity”?
A5) Aristotle.
Q6) Finally … 14th March, 1908, saw the birth of business man, Phil Vincent.   The company he founded, made what: motorcars, motorbikes or trams?
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“There’s no chivalry in culture any more. Sometimes you meet someone who everyone says is polite and you’re like, ‘Wow,’ but then it’s like, ‘Hang on, isn’t everyone supposed to be polite?’”
will.i.am, March 15, 1975.
And this tune from Lightnin’ Hopkins …

(Where the HELL did that guitar sound come from … ?)

Have a good day …

*        Oh, moving on, somewhat, Debbi, I caught last night’s episode of The X-Files.   I don’t know that it’s as good as it could’ve: I think it could’ve been a few episodes† longer, for a start.   On the UPSIDE?   It did set up another series, nicely, with a BIG dramatic cliffhanger!   Here’s hoping it get’s one …

†        I’m thinking something between ten and thirteen episodes: something like modern day Dr WhoThe Strain or House of Cards … And that’s before I mention the superb Penny Dreadful.
