The Daily Teaser — 5-2-2016: Saint Piran’s Day

Well, that’s another birthday done with.

Although I HAVE to add, my family DID manage to treat me to a posh meal: at a local branch of Wildwood.

I had the steak.

With chips.

Which was rather nice.

My shirt on the other hand?

My shirt, on the other hand, had the gorgonzola dip.

Wouldn’t you just know … ?

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with TODAY’S questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and Video

Q1) 5th March is Saint Piran’s Day: the patron saint of Cornwall.   Cornwall is a county of which nation of the UK?
Q2) What’s Cornwall’s name … in Cornish?
Q3) Cornish is what: Gaelic, Brittonic or Iberian?
Q4) Many see Saint Piran’s flag as the flag of Cornwall.   It consists of a white cross: on what colour background?
Q5) He’s also supposed to have worked out how to mine which metal: gold, tin or silver?
Q6) What’s the administrative capital of Cornwall?
Q7) Aberfal is the (relatively new) Cornish name.   For which Cornish town: Saint Ives, Falmouth or Penzance?
Q8) The highest land areas in Cornwall are where: Dartmoor, Bodmin or Land’s End?
Q9) Winston Graham’s series of novels — and the two associated TV shows — are based in Cornwall.   The first books focus on Ross … who?
Q10) Finally … David Cornwell lives and writes in Cornwall.   He’s better known as which writer?
Here’s yesterday’s questions answers …
Q1) 4th March, 1968, saw the birth of Football manager, Graham Westley.      As of 2015, he’s the manager of which League One side?
A1) Peterborough United.
Q2) Fellow Houslow-born celebrity, Patsy Kensit, was also born on 4th March, 1968.   2015 saw her taking part in the celebrity version of which Channel Five show?
A2) Celebrity Big Brother.
Q3) 4th March, 1702, saw the birth of burglar and gaol-breaker, Jack Sheppard.   Jack was also known as Jack the what: Jack the Yob, Jack the Lad or Jack the Hat?
A3) Jack the Lad.
Q4) 4th March, 1969 — the year after I, Graham Westley and Patsy Kensit were born — saw Ronnie and Reggie Kray found guilty of murdering whom?
A4) Jack ‘The Hat’ McVitie.
Q5) Finally … 4th March, 1904, saw the birth of actor and author, Chief Tahachee.   Which Native American tribe did he belong to: the Sioux, Cheyenne or Cherokee?
A5) Cherokee.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Cornwall is one of the most beautiful places, with great people - there’s not a great downside to it.”
Tori Amos.
And this song …

Have a good day.

*      Yep, you’re right, there, Olga^!   (The phrase ‘reptile fund’ springs to mind, here: Le Carré introduced it in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.   It’s the off-the-books cash that lets a government — or government agency — do the things it wants to do … but can’t be seen to do.)

†        That it is, Debbi^, that it IS … !

^        On a lighter note … ?   Did I mention it was my birthday, yesterday?   Bless him, Jude sent me a message, via Mummy …
