Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16-11-2016

You know, I’ve said it for years: that more building in the area will cause problems.

As you may or may not know?

There’s an area around the corner from my street: where developers have been granted planning permission to build extra flats.

Over the strong objections of residents.

Including myself.

Unfortunately?

The various objections have been ignored: and work is to go ahead.

The area has been boarded up.

And, as you can see?

That car, on the left, makes things difficult for pedestrians to get past.

It’s worse at night. when more cars are parked on the pavement.

On both sides of the street.

Going on my own experience?

Once those flats are completed, and people have moved in, congestion in the area will increase, significantly.

I don’t know where that will lead …

But am still convinced that this will seriously impede emergency vehicle access to my area, and contribute to someone’s death.

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring six out of six.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1) Prince Edward acceded the throne of England: on 16th November, 1272.   Which King Edward was he?
Q2) Which pop band were stripped of their Grammy Award: on 16th November, 1990?
Q3) The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization was founded: on 16th November, 1945.   UNESCO’s HQ is in which city?
Q4) 16th November, 42BC, saw the birth of Emperor Tiberius.   Which Roman Imperial dynasty was he a member of?
Q5) Finally … actions taken during the Second Relief of Lucknow, on 16th November, 1857, resulted in the British Government had out 24 of the country’s highest military medals.   The most such medals in one day.   What IS that award?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 15th November, 1939, saw the corner of the Jefferson Memorial laid: by the then US President.   Which President was it?
Q2) More to the point, the Memorial is dedicated to the third US President.   Who was he?
A2) Thomas Jefferson.   (Obviously …)
Q3) 15th November, 1951, saw rebels attack a rubber plantation: in which (then) Asian nation?
A3) Malaya.   (The area is now part of Malaysia.)
Q4) Francisco Pizarro arrived in the capital of the Incan Empire: on 15th November, 1533.   That city is now in Peru.   What city is it?
A4) Cusco.   (Occasionally spelt Cuzco)
Q5) The Free City of Danzig was established: on 15th November, 1920.   That city is now called what?
A5) Gdansk.
Q6) Finally … 15th November, 2012, saw Xi Jinping named as the General Secretary of the Communist Party: of where?
A6) The People’s Republic of China.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“I was born a character actor.   I was never really a leading man type.”
Burgess Meredith, November 16, 1907 – September 9, 1997.
And this tune …

Enjoy your day …

*        Family’s probably a good way of putting it, Olga: it’s nice to have a visit, occasionally … !   And, yep, it’s a learning process, all right.   We ended up talking about a well known brand of very high end goth boots called New Rocks‡.   Only on a Monday …

†        I forget who said it, Debbi … but someone once said “Life is a four letter word: but I don’t know which one … !”   I’d love to find out who!

‡        Cue for a song, I think.   (And prove that Patrick MacNee and Honor Blackman are fantastic actors … with less rhythm than cabbages …)
