Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9-11-2016

Drat … !

I’m up late, again.

I hate getting up late!

But I’ll live: I’ve a day off, today.

One that hopefully will see me catching a movie with a friend.

Last night?

Last night, I was up, comparatively late: mostly turning text — for upcoming Teasers — into audio: for upcoming Teaser videos.

One piece of news that came in?

Was that a small town in New Hampshire had voted, had counted out its votes …

And had voted for Trump as President: by something like 33 votes to 25.

My thought, there and then?

Was “I think that’s it: Trump’s won.”

I work up this morning …

Unsurprised by the news.

After all, I’ve lived through the Brexit vote: hoping like hell Britain would vote to remain in the EU, but thinking, throughout that day in July, that’d we’d collectively got Leave.

I was expecting the Leave vote: with a lot of trepidation, but none the less, expecting.

This morning?

I believe voters in the US have made a decision that could prove unwise: given Mr Trump’s various statements during the campaign.

And can only hope the man’s a one term President.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, Licence and video …

Q1) Darmstadtium was first synthesized: on 9th November, 1994.   The element was created in a lab, just outside the city of Darmstadt.   Lab, and city, are in which country?
Q2) Four men were found guilty of killing paperboy, Carl Bridgewater: on 9th November, 1979.   The killers’ convictions were overturned in which year?
Q3) 9th November, 2007, saw one European country pass a law allowing it to keep records of its citizens computer communications traffic: for up to six months.   Which country?
Q4) Robert Allen LaPorte burnt himself to death on 9th November, 1965: outside the UN building in New York.   He did so in protest at which war?
Q5) Finally … a European Space Agency mission was launched from Baikonur: on 9th November, 2005.   Which planet was the mission heading for?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 8th November 2016, sees the USA vote for its new President.   Name either of the two main candidates.
A1) Hilary Clinton or Donald Trump.
Q2) Which of the two is embroiled in a scandal about their emails?
Q3) Which is facing several serious sexual allegations?
Q4) The President is ultimately voted in by an electoral college.   How many electoral college votes will a candidate need, to be elected?
A4) 270.
Q5) Finally … who — at the time of this year’s election — is the current President of the United States?
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology.”
Carl Sagan, November 9, 1934 – December 20, 1996.
And this song …

Enjoy the day.

*        Olga‡, I think you’re right.   Nothing’s as scary as the US election.   Apart, maybe, from the result!   Either way … ?   I’ll be adding Don’t Breathe to the list.   (It’s ladies choice: so who knows what’s going to happen!)

†        There’s another pine to add to the list, Debbi‡!   (Oh dear … Just seen the result, Debbi … !   I was only thinking, last night, that he’d won.   After thinking, on the day, that Britain would vote to leave?   I’ve got a feeling I should start calling myself Paul The Octopus …)

‡        The BBC News Channel has been airing Trump’s victory speech.   I was hoping he’d say something like “It’s OK: I was only joking … !”   No such luck …

I told my mother a few days ago that Trump would win, on a similar thought to yours. I think people on the extremes are more committed and people who are more liberal would be worried about the things being said about Clinton, whilst the pro-Trump couldn't care less and the more they said, the more they supported him... Oh well... I was watching a Michael Moore video from July where he was saying this would happen...
