Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 31-7-2024 — Rum Runners.

31st July, 2024: Rum Runners.

It’s official: it’s Wednesday!

And … ?

It’s going to be quiet, I think.

Well … bar the pounding of feet.

I’m due to have a colonoscopy, next week.

And, in the run up to the day?

I’ve got to take a set of laxatives.

I’m wearing a whole in the floor, already!

~≈Û≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        31st July was Black Tot Day.   In which year of the 1970s?

Q2)        It was the last day the UK served rum to whom: the Army, the Navy or the Royal Airforce?

Q3)        How much rum did people get: 1/8th of a pint, 1/4 of a pint or 1/2 a pint?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The tot issued was 95.5 proof.   In other words, it was 54.6% what: water, alcohol or sulphuric acid?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

A1)        Union leader.

Q2)        The Mars 2020 probe was launched by NASA: on 30th July, 2020.   The Rovers on the probe landed on Mars in which year: 2020, 2021 or 2022?

Q4)        30th July is Independence Day in Vanuatu.   Vanuatu is in which ocean: the South Pacific, the North Atlantic or the Indian … ?
A4)        The South Pacific.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Who held a free concert in Hyde Park on 30th July, 1991: the Rolling Stones, Luciano Pavarotti or Vanessa Mae?
A5)        Luciano Pavarotti.
Here’s a thought …
“Not all [those eligible] drew their rum: each had the option to be marked in the ship’s books as ‘G’ (for Grog) or ‘T’ (for Temperance).”
From the Wikipedia entry on the Rum Ration.
A song …

  And an earworm§ …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!   (He wasn’t … ?   You never mentioned!)

I’m hoping laying off the crisps helped, Olga!
Wish your mother well for me: I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it goes well.
And yes: I know what you mean about things happening all at once!   Arrghghgh!

It’s funny you should mention TV, Debbi: apparently, people are watching less of it.   At least, going by this report, they are: more and more youngster are heading for YouTube, streamers and iPlayer-style, catch-up services.

§        Personally, I’ll blaming Facebook, YouTube, and lord knows where else, for that earworm.   They’ve been thrown that audio clip — attached to silly dance routines — at me for at least a week!

this is actually kinda my favorite style lol

I hope you survive OK to the bowel prep. I guess they are not called "the runs" for nothing.
Well, so far we've only managed to get the X-ray done. The delivery people for the fridge called as we were leaving to the hospital, so the delivery has been delayed until tomorrow (so, we had turned off the fridge, that means emptying everything, because the plug is at the back and the fridge is enclosed by the kitchen furniture, so you cannot move around it), and then had to do the same back again, and plug it again. And it being so hot, it's not too pleasant. And, the meter reader hasn't been here yet, but now we (or at least I) will be waiting for the fridge delivery tomorrow morning, so we shall see if he turns up while we are here. It's so hot that we don't go out in the middle of the day, as it is very uncomfortable and difficult to bear. It was terrible today, because my mother's appointment was at 12:30.
Take care.
