Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7th September 2024.

7th September, 2024.

Yay!

It’s Saturday!

Which means we’ll allowed to dance about in a way that borders on frenzied.

So long as our knees allow it.

On a more serious note?

I’ve got a reviewed planned.

Keep your eyes peeled.

OK … we watch the news, don’t we?

Or, at least, we pay attention to it: and, therefore, we know that there’s been another school shooting in the US.

In Georgia.

Both the fourteen year-old shooter, and his father*, have been arrested: and charged in connection with the crimes.

We also know the USA is holding a presidential election, this November.

What we may not realise?

Is that Republic vice-presidential candidate, JD Vance, has given a campaign speech about it: in which he calls such things a ‘fact of life’.

Referred to the killer as ‘a psychopath’ …

And says that US school security should be boosted.

Frankly?   I don’t know if the killer is psychotic.

But is a hormonal teenager who’s been brought up in a culture that has easy access to guns.

As for boosting school security?

I think Mr Vance only has the half of it.

America needs better gun control: not just better security or shooter drills.

Just as a last point … ?

I was in Brentwood High Street, on Thursday: and forgot to mention a bit of a find.

We have plenty of gadget shops in town: as, I suspect, do many others!

I went past one … and noticed the vintage G4 Power Mac they had in the window!

I had one, myself, many years ago: one significantly older than the pictured one!

I don’t know if it’s functional: I suspect not.

I do know it’s not for sale, as I asked the assistant about it.

But?

It was nice to see.

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum†, Olga‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        The Guo Huaiyi rebellion started on 7th September, 1652.   On which island: Taiwan, Java or Kyushu?

Q2)        7th September is the UN sponsored World Duchenne Awareness Day.   Duchenne’s is a form of what: lung cancer, muscular dystrophy or poliomyelitis?

Q3)        Boston was founded on 7th September.   It’s in which US state: Texas, Massachusetts or California?

Q4)        The Boxer Protocol was signed on 7th September, 1901.   It ended a rebellion, in what’s now where: Japan, China or Vietnam?

Q5)        Finally … ?   VTV launched on 7th September, 1970.   It’s which country’s national broadcaster: Vanuatu, Vatican City, Venezuela or Vietnam?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Boris Johnson handed in his formal resignation to the Queen: on 6th September, 2022.   His formal resignation as what: Prime Minister, Foreign Secretary or Home Secretary?
A1)        Prime Minister.

Q2)        6th September, 2022, saw who replace him in that role?
A2)        Liz Truss.   (I shouldn’t laugh: but…)

Q3)        Mahmoud Abbas resigned on 6th September, 2003.   As Palestinian what: President, Prime Minister or Ambassador to the UK?
A3)        Prime Minister.

Q4)        According to the Roman Catholic Church, 6th September is whose feast day: Zechariah, Jeremiah or Micaia?
A4)        Zechariah.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Leon Czolgosz shot the 25th President of the USA: on 6th September, 1901.   Who was that President: Grover Cleveland, William McKinley or Theodore Roosevelt?
A5)        William McKinley.
Here’s a thought …
“At the end of the summer they said to me: ‘You may have talent for something, but it’s certainly not acting.’”
Elia Kazan, September 7, 1909 – September 28, 2003.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Apparently?   There was at least one report that said how the father was being investigated for giving his son the AR-15–style gun he used as a gift.   It’s a machine gun, for crying out loud!   (Apparently, you can set the things up for left hand use.   That’s not — even for me — a reassurance!)

        Hello, Mum!

A nanny could be very handy, Olga: especially for Musk.   And probably even Trump!   And you saying about his advisers … ?   Did you ever hear the phrase, ‘yes men’?   The term for a bunch of people who agree with you?   I first heard it being used about Margaret Thatchers advisers.   I think the less said, the better!
I’ve started some basic work on that piece, so you know: but it’s going to take a while, I think.
At any rate … ?   I know what you mean about ISPs: it’s taken me about a decade to get BT down to a price I’m comfortable with.   It helps that they’re about the only ones doing a low cost tariff for people on low incomes: that’s a lifesaver!
I’m thankful Mum’s fairly tech-savvy: she’s usually good at spotting what the differences are!   (Her and Jude are usually better at it than I am, sometimes!)

§        I keep thinking I should check out Substack, Debbi: we’ll just have to see!

Yes! You're right about yes men.
Here they said that they were going to charge the father of that boy for helping him and that the goy was going to be judged as an adult. Not sure if that is the case.
