The Daily Teaser — 24-6-2013: Spotting UFOs

You know, right at the moment, I’m thinking something that, verbally,  is best expressed as ‘yuch’: with ‘ch’ pronounced as in ‘Bach.’

I’m up early: unreasonably so, as the Work Programme wants me in at a stupidly early time: to the point I’ve formally complained, as the bus time tables create one HELL of a conflict.

I’m on my emergency credit on my gas meter.

What’s more … ?   My boiler’s on the blink, so it’s kettle boiling bath water time.

On the whole … ?   I’m not a happy bunny … !

Let’s move on, shall we?

BEFORE I start swearing … !

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi putting in her answers.   Along with telling she wasn’t able to type as fast as the chap in yesterday’s video*, she also bagged five out of five.

Let’s see how she — and you — do with today’s UFO questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the ‘How To’, License and video

Q1) 24th June, 1947, saw Kenneth Arnold make what was the first widely reported UFO sighting.   In which US state was this … ?
Q2) Near which mountain … ?
Q3) How many did he claim to have seen: seven, eight or nine … ?
Q4) What’s the collective name for a group of UFO sightings … ?
Q5) And finally … Arnold’s sighting was partly corroborated by a man called Fred Johnson: who’d been on Mount Adams, doing what?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 23rd June, 1868, saw Christopher L. Sholes patent the world’s first commercially successful typewriter.   What was the name of the keyboard he designed to go with it … ?
A1) The QWERTY keyboard.
Q2) The design is named for the first six letters on which row: top, bottom or middle?
A2) Top.
Q3) What letter is on the right hand end of the bottom row of that keyboard … ?
A3) M.
Q4) The original Sholes Typewriter was tested to destruction by James O. Clephane of Washington D. C.   What was his job: printer, stenographer or army sniper … ?
A4) Stenographer.
Q5) And finally … what was the name of the company the typewriter design was sold to … ?
A5) Remington.
I’ll leave you with this complaint from Kenneth Arnold, himself …
“This whole thing has gotten out of hand. I want to talk to the FBI or someone. Half the people look at me as a combination of Einstein, Flash Gordon and screwball. I wonder what my wife back in Idaho thinks.”
Kenneth Arnold, speaking to interviewers on the 27th of June, 1947.
And with this tune …

Enjoy your day …

*        I don’t think ANYONE can type like the chap in the video, Debbi: if I’ve understood the Wikipedia entry on the song, the typewriter part is usually performed by drummers: they’re the only ones with the wrist action …

Now, that's the most unusual Carpenters song I've ever heard! :)
