Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30th January, 2018.

30th January, 2018.

OK, OK, maybe I didn’t.

Strictly speaking?

It’s not the news ‘saying’ it, either.

It’s the news channel, or a news channel, Buzzfeed, reporting on a leaked government report: showing three models of Britain’s economic growth, post-Brexit.

Growth that slows, in various degrees, depending on the deal we get.

Apart from any bespoke deal we manage to get.

Which obvious.   We can’t guess how a bespoke deal will affect the UK … until it’s done.

Right now?

I’m  thinking …

Well, lots of things: including the idea that going back to bed is a good idea.

But, frankly?

I voted remain.

I’m no economist, but I had a vague idea we’d be better off as part of a group doing some good ol’ left wing, collective bargaining.

If these models are accurate?

If they turn out to be accurate predictions of our country’s growth outside the Union?

I’m thinking this news reinforces my reasons for voting remain: slow growth means less chances for my nephew, as he grows up.

That’s not something I’m happy with.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers, with both — through no fault of their own — scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions and answers, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 30th January is the feast day of Saint Aldegonde.   She’s the patron saint of sufferers of what: leprosy, breast cancer or postnatal depression?
Q2) 30th January, 1937, saw the birth of Boris Spassky.   What game is he famous for playing?
Q3) Actor, Christian Bale, was born on 30th January, 1974.   He famously lost his temper at a director of photography: during the making of which film?
Q4) 30th January, 58BC, saw the birth of Livia Drusilla.   Which Roman Emperor was she married to?
Q5) 30th January, 516 BC, saw construction of what, finished: the Great Pyramid of Giza, Stonehenge or the Second Temple in Jerusalem?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 29th January, 1954, saw the birth of the walk’s richest talk show host.   Who is she?
Q2) More to the point, what’s the name of the production company she founded?
Q3) The evening of 29th January, 1976, saw a dozen bombs go off in London’s West End.   Which group admitted to planting those bombs: the Red Brigades, the Provisional IRA or the Ulster Defense Association?
Q4) What’s now the modern island state of Singapore was discovered — or landed on — on 29th January, 1819.    AAAAAGGGHHHGHGHGHGH!
Q5) 29th January, 1985, saw — in a protest at cuts to University education — Oxford University refuse an honorary degree to whom?
Q6) Finally … The Compromise of 1850 was introduced to the US Congress: on 29th January, 1850: by Kentucky Senator, Henry Clay.   Famously, it led to which state being admitted to the Union, early?
A6) California.   (If I’ve understood it?   The compromise hinged on whether new states should be slave owner — with all the financial advantages — or not.   California became a free state: in part, on the basis of tax money it made during the gold rush.)
Here’s a thought …
“Nowadays there is more dynamism in (the game), modern players like to take the initiative. Usually they are poor defenders though.”
Boris Spassky, born January 30, 1937.
And — as it’s Steve Marriott’s birthday — a Small Faces tune.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        That’s left me with an alarming mental image, Olga‡: you’ve got gangs of waif-like, orphaned TV shows following you about, begging for £2·50 for a cup of tea!   I can only hope one of them doesn’t start singing about being under a street lamp!

†        I might certainly pencil it in, then, Debbi‡!   Frankly?   Bladerunner’s runtime is … well … I think ALL of The Lord of the Rings movies are shorter!

‡        Yeah, sorry about Raffles questions, folks: I’m blowed if I know what happened, there!   (He’s possibly the only diplomat with a hotel named after him, I know that.   Oh, Olga, Debbi^, did I mention AJ Raffles … ?)

^        I keep thinking he’s vaguely like the Saint: the Charteris original, rather than later TV versions.

Q3) Terminator Salvation
Q4) Augustus (I remember this from I, Claudius. Sian Phillips, fantastic).
Q5) the Second Temple in Jerusalem

Interesting image too. Something else to write about! (With the question, I know you've been doing this much longer, but I still sometimes seem to cut and paste randomly, convinced I've included everything I wanted to only discover later I've left half of a sentence behind...)
