Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-12-2017: Twelfth Night

Right, done and dusted … !

As you’re possibly aware?

I’ve had an internal drive: a two terabyte one I’d used for media storage.

One that the Brentwood branch of CeX wouldn’t take, as the equipment they used to test such things had broken.

I was just a little put off by that: and thinking, yesterday morning, that heading to the Romford branch of CeX and selling it there, would be an idea.

So … ?

That’s exactly what I ended up doing.

Romford CeX were happy to take it: doing the testing in under an hour, whilst I went off an had the first and only McDonalds I’ve had in about five years.

Frankly?

It’s strange, I know: but I’ve come away with a minor feeling of accomplishment: however minor that accomplishment actually was.

Just as an extra thought?

You — as I — have possibly read about the Meltdown and Spectre flaws in various computer chips: chips — and thus flaws — so widespread that every hardware maker on the planet are affected.

Included Macs: the platform I’ve been using and recommending for several years, now.

Thanks are that, Intel!

At ANY rate?   Apple* have confirmed this affects Macs, iPhones and iPads — but not the Watch — and will be putting through fixes, soon.

Personally?

I hope that includes my version of Safari.

I’d hate to be left out!

In all this … ?

In all the fuss, day trips and palaver, the fact I’ve managed to catch Shada, last night?

Can almost be overlooked!

Oy vey … !

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s themed questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 5th January is the Twelfth Day of Christmas.   What HAS my true love given to me?
Q2) The Church of England marks 5th January as Twelfth  Night: in other words, the night before what: New Years Day, Epiphany or Christmas?
Q3) What — according to the old superstition — can you NOT have up, past Twelfth Night?
Q4) These days, Christmas is usually considered over, by Twelfth Night.   In Tudor times, it used to be considered over, when: Candlemas, Lammas Eve or Middlemas?
Q5) Finally?   Name either of the twins at the centre of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night.
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 4th January is World Braille Day.   Braille is a writing system aimed sat whom: the deaf, blind or mute?
A1) The blind or visually impaired.
Q2) Braille is composed of cells.   These cells are in rectangular groups of raised what?
A2) Dots.
Q3) Those items are in groups of six.   How are those groups arranged: 3 columns with 2 rows, or 2 columns with 3 rows?
A3) Mostly?   2 columns with 3 dots.   (Saying that?   The Unicode version of Braille is 2 columns of four dots.)
Q4) Braille’s inventor was French.   What’s the name of the competing American system?
A4) New York Point.
Q5) Finally?   The Perkins Brailler is a what?
A5) Braille typewriter.
Here’s a quote …
“Foolery, sir, does walk about the orb, like the sun; it shines everywhere.”
Fest, Scene 1, Act iii, Twelfth Night, William Shakespeare.
And a carol …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

†        Sensible move, Olga^!   (I’m just grateful I do have a Mac: the Disk Utility app that’s been bundled with macOS for the past few years let me wipe that drive, very securely: takes a while, but …)

‡        Think you’re right, there, Debbi^!   (The amount of people I know at work who’ve been buying them is … startling!)   Oh, did you see my post about Shada?   Interesting watch …

^        Have to admit, I tactfully ignored American Braille: if I’d understood it, it was a derivative system.

Yes, I think you are right about American Braille. It seem to adapt the sign and change them to the most often used... Have a good weekend and I'm plased you eventually managed to sell it.
