The Daily Teaser - 01-3-2012

Hmmm …

Pinch and a punch, it’s the first of the month … !

Yes: that is a silly rhyme, isn’t it … ?

At ANY rate, that DOES remind me that it‘s both Saint David’s Day: big if you’re of a Welsh persuasion.

And that I’ve been doing a few bits of tinkering, that come into play, today.

First off: I’m taking the soundtrack off the actual Teaser videos: it makes for slightly less work, slightly quicker exporting from iMovie, and hopefully, the chance to earn a little cash from YouTube’s monetization process. I doubt it happen. But frankly, anything is worth a try at the moment!

The only other big chance is the posters: the images I use for the Teaser posts, themselves.

I’ve reduced the number, a little. Just to make space on my hard-drive, frankly … !

Let’s see how that goes down, shall we … ?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi — definitely in a mildly anarchic mood* — putting in her answers: AND bagging either 9 out of ten, OR 10 out of 10ª!

Let’s see if she — and you — are in touch with our respective inner Welshness, with today’s St. David’s Day questions: here they are, along with the ‘How To’, License and video
Q1) 1st March is Saint David’s Day: what’s the Welsh version of the name, Saint David … ?

Q2) In which Welsh county is his main shrine, Saint David’s Cathedral … ?

Q3) More to the point, how many colours are there, on the Saint David’s Flag … ?

Q4) Which Welsh island was sacred to the Druids?

Q5) What’s the Cornish version of the Eisteddfod.

Q6) What’s the Welsh national flower?

Q7) Moving on … 1st March, 1565, saw the founding of which South American city … ?

Q8) 1st March, 1873, saw which company put the world’s first practical typewriter into production … ?

Q9) Twenty years later, 1st March, 1893, saw who demonstrate radio for the first time … ?

Q10) And finally … 1st March, 2006, saw the English language version of Wikipedia reach it’s 1 millionth article: what was that article about … ?
And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 29th February is a Leap Day: leap days are needed because the Earth’s orbit is roughly how much longer than the calendar year: half a day, a third of a day or a quarter of a day?
A1) A quarter of a day.

Q2) The Gregorian calendar that sees this happened is designed to keep the vernal equinox near which date: 21st March, 21st June or 21st September?
A2) 21st March.

Q3) 2012 is a leap year: when was the last leap year … ?
A3) 2008.

Q4) When was the first leap year of the 21st century … ?
A4) 2000: as it was divisible by both 4, AND 400

Q5) In which year is the LAST leap year of the 21st century … ?
A5) 2096: as 2100 ISN’T divisible by 400. (And frankly, there’s arguments about which century years ending in ‘00’ actually belong to.)

Q6) According to an old British tradition, 29th February is the one date of the year a woman is allowed to do what … ?
A6) Propose marriage. (I’m waiting for DOZENS of them, frankly … )

Q7) When was the last leap second added to the clocks … ?
A7) 31st December, 2008.

Q8) In The Twelve Days of Christmas, how many lords a’leaping are there … ?
A8) 10.

Q9) The Summer Olympics are usually held in a leap year: in which European city are they being held, this year … ?
A9) London.

Q10) And FINALLY … What’s the name of the French magazine that’s only published on the 29th February … ?
A10) La Bougie du Sapeur.
Enjoy those, everyone: I’ll leave you with Katherine Jenkins been very Welsh at you …

* Especially with the mask‡, eh, Debbi … ?

ª Yeah, I know, Debbi: but it all comes down to whether a year ending in ‘00’ belongs to this century or the preceding one: something I mention in the relevant answer. (Oh … 2100 isn’t a leap year: which stops THAT argument … !)

Actually, while we’re on the subject of V for Vendetta, this video — of V, introducing himself — always grabbed me.

I was going to bring that point up about the ambiguous interpretation. Then, I found a source on the Internet clearly stating that 2004 was the first leap year. Hey, whatever, right? :)
