The Daily Teaser — 17-2-2016

Boy, but I’m yawning, at the moment … !

Mind you … I was up late.

Believe it or not?   Watching some episodes of The Strain, something I’d bought from iTunes on a whim.

A whim … and a bit of a gamble.   Sometimes, one doesn’t know what one’s going to get.

Saying that … ?

Going on the quality of the episodes, so far, it’s a gamble that’s paying off.

Corey Stoll and Mia Maestro make for sympathetic leads, David Bradley — the world’s favourite crusty old git — is good as the series’ equivalent of Abraham van Helsing, and the strigoi — the monsters in The Strain —suitable scary.

I just wish I’d, maybe, you know … not taken as much time, doing the write up.

Oy Veh!

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: scoring six out of six in the process.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video

Q1) 17th February, 1621, saw Myles Standish appointed as the governor of Plymouth Colony: in what’s now the USA.   What’s left of the original New Plymouth, is in which US state?
Q2) 17th February, 1991, saw the birth of singer, Ed Sheeran.   What was the mathematical name of his first album?
Q3) Abraham Benjamin ‘AB’ deVilliers was born on the 17th February, 1984.   He plays international cricket for which African side?
Q4) Newsweek magazine was published for the first time: on 17th February, 1933.   It’s the second most popular magazine in US: by circulation.   What’s the most popular?
Q5) Finally … The London Congestion charge was introduced on 17th February, 2003.   Under which London Mayor?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 16th February, 1923, saw Howard Carter unseal whose burial chamber?
A1) Tutankhamun’s.
Q2) The first US emergency telephone system went into operation, on 16th February: in Haleyville, Alabama.   In which year of the 1960s?
A2) 1968.
Q3) 16th February, 1941 — or 1942 —  saw the birth of Kim Jong-il: dictator of which Asian country?
A3) The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea: usually referred to as North Korea.
Q4) 16th February, 1958, saw the birth of Tracy Lauren Marrow: better known as which rapper?
A4) Ice T.
Q5) Finally … 16th February, 1964, saw the birth of actor, Christopher Ecclestone.   In which Danny Boyle film did he play David Stephens?
A5) Shallow Grave.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“I think Lawson put his case better than I did, but I had the better case, so that honours (or dishonours) were fairly equal.”
Andrew ‘Banjo’ Paterson, 17 February 1864 – 5 February 1941.
And this music …

Have a good day!

*        Glad I could help, Debbi!   (Hmmm … I hope the Smart TV can deal with the files, Debbi: from the little I know, many of them can’t play .m4v files: but can play .DivX ones!   You MIGHT want to see if you can get a copy of Plex† for it: that way, you can stream them over from your Mac.)

†        I’ve not used it, myself: but, from what I can see, Plex lets you stream media content on one device — a phone, tablet or computer — over to another: a smart TV, games console or streaming box.

Q4) Newsweek magazine was published for the first time: on 17th February, 1933. It’s the second most popular magazine in US: by circulation. What’s the most popular? Not sure about this question as Newsweek is no longer being printed only available online, so not sure if that would be the same as it doesn’t appear in the lists I’ve found, that list AARP (the American Association of Retired Persons) Magazine as number one. They most seem to mix paid and not paid but the question isn’t very specific. (http://auditedmedia.com/news/blog/2014/august/top-25-us-consumer-magazines-for-june-2014.aspx) I couldn’t find any for last year yet.
Q5) Ken Livingstone
By the way, I’m going back to Spain on Friday and I’ll be sorting things out for the next few days so don’t worry if I don’t turn up. Hope to catch up soon!
