Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-1-2018: The Genesis Block … !

Hmmm …

If you were here, yesterday’s, you’d’ve read I’d making to uninstall, and wipe, a 2 terabyte hard drive: one I had used as media storage.

So … I have an extra 3·5”, two terabyte, internal SATA drive sitting around, in usable, and verifiably working condition.   (It’s the externally mounted drive labelled ‘UNTITLED’.)

Notice I say ‘verifiably’.

I took the thing into the Brentwood branch of CeX, yesterday: so I could sell the thing on.

To be told they couldn’t take it, as it didn’t show up on their testing system: or in the caddy they used to connect hard drives to their testing systems.

I got very politely assertive: pointing out the thing had — literally — finished being wiped that morning, was fresh out of my own dock, and in a format that a PC would be able to easily access.

They double checked their system: with one of their own stock of drives.

Turns out their enclosure was knackered …

Wouldn’t you know it … ?

Let’s movie on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw newcomer, Ritchie*, and regulars, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Ritchie scoring two.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) The Genesis Block was established: on 3rd January, 2009.   The block was/is one element in the creation of which digital currency?
Q2) More to the point, which apparently Japanese person established that block?
Q3) The currency’s logo is a stylised version of which letter?
Q4) This kind of digital currency is called a what?
Q5) Finally … That block was the first in a type of distributed ledger: called a what?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) Who was sworn in as Governor of California on 2nd January 1967?
Q2) 2nd January, 1836, saw the birth of Queen Emma of where?
A2) Hawai’i.
Q3) 2nd January, 1914, saw the birth of Noor Inayat Khan, author, descendant of Tipu Sultan, and member of Britain’s wartime Special Operations Executive.   Her death and SOE work earned her Britain’s highest civilian medal.   Which medal?
A3) The George Cross.
Q4) The Battle of Ap Bac took place on 2nd January, 1963: during the Vietnam War.   It was a victory for who: the USA or the Viet Cong?
A4) The Viet Cong.

A5) Pay.
Here’s a thought …
“The blockchain does one thing: It replaces third-party trust with mathematical proof that something happened.”
Adam Draper.
And a tune …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Welcome back aboard, Ritchie: if we CAN have that URL, next time … ?   (Strictly?   Those are Google’s invisible cars.)

†        Hmmm … If you’s got a spare six terabyte, SATA, 3·5” drive you want shot of, Olga … … …

‡        Oh, swing … !   I know exactly what you mean, Debbi!
