Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9-1-2018: The Number Nine

Right …

It’s a Tuesday, today.

In case you hadn’t noticed.

Which means …

Well, possibly several things.

Anything that happens regularly, on a Tuesday, will happen today.

Anything that doesn’t happen regularly, on a Tuesday, won’t.

And, on a personal note?

I’m back at work!

While that’s nice — it means I get paid — it does mean one thing.

I’ve not got the time to sit down with another TV series*: until at LEAST the weekend!

Grrr … !

~≈§≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 9th January is the ninth day of the year.   How many days are left in a non-leap year?
Q2) What’s the ninth month of the year?
Q3) What’s the square root of nine?
Q4) If a number is a multiple of nine, what do the individual digits in that multiple add up to?
Q5) The Nine Bows are the traditional enemies of where: Ancient Egypt, Ancient Rome or Classical Greece?
Q6) Which domestic pet is said to have nines lives?
Q7) In the Inferno section of Dante’s Divine Comedy, there are nine circles of where: Heaven, Hell or Houston?
Q8) In Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, Sauron gave nine rings of power to the leaders of whom: Men, Elves or Dwarves?
Q9) Nine squared equals what?   (9²= … ?)
Q10) Finally … what’s the ninth month of the Islamic calendar?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 8th January 2017 saw the death of singer, Peter Sarstedt.   What was his biggest UK hit?
Q2) Jon Venables and Robert Thompson — the two killers of James Bulger — were granted anonymity for life: on 8th January, 2001.   Which of the pair has recently been recalled to prison?
Q3) 8th January, 1947, saw the birth of David Bowie.   What was his biggest hit … during the 1960s?
A3) Space Oddity.   (Personally, I preferred The Laughing Gnome)
Q4) The USA’s national debt hit zero for the only time: on 8th January of which year of the 1830s?
A4) 1835.
Q5) Finally … Alfred the Great’s army was led out by the King, himself: on 8th December, 871.   The army was repelling an invasion by whom: Vikings, the Spanish or the USA?
A5) Danelaw Vikings: it’s what historians call the Battle of Ashdown.
Here’s a thought …
“A cat-o’-nine-tails suggests perfect punishment and atonement.”
Robert Ripley.
And a tune …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a nice day.

*        Saying that?   I did managed to catch Despite Yourself, the most recent episode of Star Trek: Discovery last night.   Mind the spoilers!

†        Yeah, it was a bit disappointing, Olga^ª: it’s possibly one you’ll want to avoid.   Unless you’ve got a thing about Brentwood High Street!   (The one near me’s now a restaurant.   Turns out the other one that got featured, a lot?   Has been demolished …)

‡        It’s generating debate on Reddit, Debbi^ª, I know that much!   (I think DVD releases are going to get less common, over the next few years: as streaming gets more common.   I know I sold my DVD player, last year.)

^        Just so you both know, tomorrow’s Teaser is a couple of questions longer than usual.   Given the subject?   It seemed entirely appropriate.

ª        Oh my god, there’s a half naked blogger at the start and finish of today’s Teaser video.   I got the mic working for about five minutes …
