Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-2-2021: We Love Oregon

14th February, 2021.

Yes: it’s official … it’s still cold!

By this evening, and going by the BBC’s weather website?

It’s going to hit a positively tropical 4ºC.

39.2ºF, if you’re that way inclined.

It’s hopefully going to be warmer, tomorrow!

~≈💧≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Trevor†, Mum‡, Debbi^ and Edithª putting in their answers: with Olga, Debbi, Trevor and Mum scoring five out of five, and Edith on two.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        Today is Valentine’s Day.   It’s also the day Oregon joined the USA.   In which year of the 1850s?

Q2)        Oregon’s known as the what state: Badger State, Beaver State or Bear State?

Q3)        Salem — Oregon’s capital — shares its name with Salem, New England: the town that saw the famous Witch trials.   That latter Salem is in which US state?

Q4)        Salem, Oregon, is the state’s capital.   What’s Oregon’s largest city by area: Portland, Salem or Eugene?

Q5)        Oregon native, Matt Groening, comes from Portland.   A heavily disguised version of his hometown is the setting for which of his TV shows?

Q6)        Oregon is in which region of the US: New England, the Pacific Northwest or the Deep South?

Q7)        The Black Hills, the Cascades and the Whiskey Hills are all Oregonian what: lakes, plains or mountain ranges?

Q8)        The world’s largest living organism lives in the Malheur National Forest, in Oregon.   It’s a what: elephant, fungi or tree?

Q9)        Which 1975, Jack Nicholson film, was made in Salem, Oregon?

Q10)        Finally … ?   The Portland Timbers plays what: American Football, Canadian football or Association Football?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Wallace Lane, Virginia Maxey and Mike Mikesell discovered a rock on 13th February, 1961.   A rock that apparently contained what: a tobacco tin, spark plug or battery?
A1)        A spark plug.

Q2) 13th February, 1981, saw several streets in Louisville, Kentucky, destroyed in explosions.   From what: gas pipes, electricity cables or sewers?
A2)        Sewers.

Q3)        13th February, 2017, saw the assassination of Kim Jong-nam: at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.   Which dictator’s brother was he?
A3)        Kim Jong-un’s.

Q4)        13th February, 2001, saw the birth of Finnish sportsman, Kaapo Kakko.   He plays what for the New York Rangers: Rugby Union, Ice hockey or Association Football?
A4)        Ice hockey. Apparently?   He’s from Turku …

Q5)        Finally … ?   13th February is the feast of Saint Jordan of Saxony.   Saxony is in which European country?
A5)        Germany.
Here’s a motto …
‘Alis volat propriis.’
‘She flies with her own wings.’
State Motto.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        That it is, Olga, that it is.   As for Buffy … ?   Like I say, I’m a fan of the thing — I’ve not seen Firefly — and think it’s great TV … but it sounds like Whedon’s not the most tactful of bosses!
Oh, I saw the Chillida sculpture: I left a comment!
I hope the election goes well!

†        Was that the Right to Strike question, Trevor?   I think re-writing that set’s a must: if I ever get around to re-using it!

‡        Hello, Mum!

^        It’s a pain in the proverbial, I know that, Debbi!   And I’ll keep my eyes peeled for the book!
Oh … he got acquitted …

ª        The film’s worth a look, Edith.   It’s one of my favourites, and inspired a lot of people to where the Guy Fawkes mask at protests.
And, yeah, you’re right: abusive sets can be nasty!

During an extra long visit to Vancouver British Columbia Canada Penny and I spent a week down in Oregon. It is where she would go as a kid to visit her Aunt who lived in Corvallis just down from Salem.

Just across the River Columbia from Portland is Vancouver Washington State.

The first place we stayed on the coast was called Seaside and yes it by the side of a small sea – The Pacific Ocean.

Thanks for the comment on the pic as well, Paul. I'd never been to that park, but I couldn't resist seeing that thing close and personal. It's pretty spectacular. And the setting is wonderful. It's at the bottom of one of the hills surrounding Barcelona, and if you keep climbing up, the views are amazing as well (and all around, sea and mountains). In the summer, the large pond is open for swimming (well, it's not very deep, but I guess it will be good for kids to splash around).
