Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21st February, 2021

21st February, 2021.

Right … it’s Sunday, again … it only seems a week since the last one …

Yes, quite!

At any rate?   I caught another episode of The Mandalorian, last night.

Once I’ve got the written and video reviews done?

I’ll be hitting the share button.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor*, Mum†, Olga‡, Debbi^ and Edithª putting in their answers: with Trevor, Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum and Edith on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        21st February, 1996, saw the birth of actress, Sophie Turner.   Who did she play in Game of Thrones: Sansa Stark, Arya Stark or Ned Stark?

Q2)        21st February is Farelia.   Farelia was a festival in which historic Empire: Ancient Rome, Imperial China or the Byzantine Empire?

Q3)        21st February, 1943, saw the birth of business magnate, David Geffen.   What was the name of the record company he founded in 1980: Asylum Records, Geffen Records or DGC Records?

Q4)        21st February, 1794, saw the birth of Antonio López de Santa Anna.   He was one of Mexico’s best known what: singers, writers or presidents?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Battle of Verdun began on 21st February, 1916.   Town and battle were or are in which European country?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        20th February, 1963, saw the birth of singer, Ian Brown.   He was the lead singer of noted Manchester band, the Stone … what?
A1)        The Stone Roses.

Q2)        20th February, 1967, saw the birth of musician, Kurt Cobain.   He was the singer for which grunge band?
A2)        Nirvana.

Q3)        20th February, 1927, saw the birth of actor and diplomat, Sidney Poitier.   Between 1997 and 2007, he was Bahaman Ambassador to where: China, Japan or Malaysia?
A3)        Japan.

Q4)        20th February, 1926, saw the birth of writer, Richard Matheson.   His novel, I Am Legend, has been turned into three different movies.   The first was The Last Man on Earth, the second, The Omega Man. What Will Smith film was the third?
A4)        I Am Legend.

Q5)        Finally … ?   20th February, 1927, saw the birth of McCarthy lawyer, Roy Cohn.   He died in 1986, of complications from which immune system disease?
A5)        HIV/AIDS.
Here’s a thought …
“You’ve got to learn to leave the table when love’s no longer being served.”
Nina Simone, February 21, 1933 – April 21, 2003.
And a debut album …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        I wish I could say the same, Trevor.   My usual bench — on the junction of Warley Hill, Queens Road And Kings Road — has an empty flower bed.   Roadworks … … … … …

†        Hello, Mum!

‡        It’s funny you should mention that, Olga: about politicians not doing anty thing unless it makes them look good.   The Scottish Parliament’s elections are in May: and the Scottish Conservatives are expected to do badly.   Unless they get a little help from central government …
I’ll keep my fingers crossed on the work front, Olga!

^        Oh, there’s more where that came from, Debbi!

ª        It’s a very good film, Edith: I don’t know if it would be up your street, though, it’s rather menacing …

Q1) Sansa Stark
Q2) It’s Ferālia , I think, rather than Farelia. Ancient Rome
Q3) Geffen Records (this is a bit of a trick question, as he founded all of them, but not all in 1980). Are you trying to check if we’re awake? Not sure I am, to tell you the truth. We discovered the problem they were supposed to have sorted on Friday is not sorted yet, and we still have water dropping at the back, on the patio, and falling on the washing machine.
Q4) Presidents
Q5) France
Well, the work at the front isn't quite finished yet, and they are using a huge lifting platform that we have parked in front of the building, not quite in front of our window, but it's a bit weird. I guess they will finish tomorrow. On the other hand, as I mentioned before, the work at the back doesn't seem to have solved the problem. It seems they need to also replace the part of the drain between the floor above us and ours. I was trying to take a picture or a video of where the water is coming from, but it is right above our flat, and there are many drains connecting, so there's no clear view. The neighbour from the flat upstairs, who works in the building trade, also came to have a look, and he could see the water dropping, but there was no way to get an image. It is all very tiresome.
On top of that, we have one of the flats in the building empty. It belongs to what here they call "un fondo buitre" (an investment company vulture). They buy empty properties at low cost to inflate the prices. ("Legitimate" banks also do the same, so...) The thing is that squatters tend to target these kinds of flats, and we've had several attempts at entry. It's on the floor above us, on the other side of the building, so we don't usually hear or see anything, but the neighbours are quite worried and scared, and although the front door of the building has been reinforced now, they try to jump through the balcony. They are suggesting just walling in the balcony doors, but because the flat doesn't belong to us, the legal situation can be tricky. (On the other hand, they should be taking proper care of the place).
And thanks for the enquiries yesterday. Mostly, the demonstrations have been in the city centre so far (and mostly peaceful, but there are always some individuals who take advantage of them to cause damage, destroy stuff, and rob and burglarise shops). The worrying thing is that today there's a demonstration called here in the neighbourhood where we live. The stretch of street where we live isn't the most attractive to demonstrators or criminals in general (no shops and the bar downstairs is now closed, as it seems they couldn't keep up with the payments), although there is an avenue/walk very nearby, so it's anybody's guess how things might go. To tell you the truth, it's all really exhausting. We have enough problems as it is. I agree the laws are ridiculous (putting somebody in prison for badmouthing the king and the royal family? In the meantime, the father of the king, who's stolen money left right and centre, is hiding in Abu Dhabi, well, and half of the politicians are also corrupt), and the whole constitution in this country needs a good shake (there wasn't a clean break with the Franco regime, and past history has a way of not remaining buried for ever), but... I'll just shut up. Stay safe.

I hope Olga is O.K. There are major riots and looting in Barcelona.

At least the looters are keeping their masks on in the high end stores.

Turb out I read the story in college. The same company is behind both films. It is one thing to read a story and another to see it. https://youtu.be/5Lq36VFZIQE
