Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26th March, 2022

26th March, 2022.

It’s officially Saturday: a day when I’m not expecting any incoming phone calls.

Which is possibly a good thing.

It’s also a day when I’ve got to go to town at least one more time: to pick up some medication.

The one upside to all this?

Is that it’s nice and sunny: I’d get some air to my skin.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Debbi† and Mum‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on two.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        In some Eastern Orthodox Churches, 26th March is the Feast Day of the Archangel Gabriel.   He’s said to have announced the birth of Jesus, in which of the Gospels?

Q2)        26th March is also the feast day of Saint Felicitas of Padua. Where is Padua: Italy, Israel or Iraq?

Q3)        26th March, 1973, saw who admitted to the Stock Exchange: men, women or children?

Q4)        Journalist, Paul Morley, was born on 26th March, 1957.   He was a founder of which band: Yes, the Art of Noise or the Buggles?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Pierre Boulez was born on 26th March, 1925.   He was a French what: writer, composer or scientist?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Actor, Patrick Troughton, was born: on 25th March, 1920. Which incarnation of the Doctor did he play, in Dr Who: the second, third or fourth?
A1)        The Second.

Q2)        Which Doctor recommended him for the role: the first, second or third
A2)        The first: William Hartnell.

Q3)        He played a scheming priest in a 1970s ITV series called The Feathered Serpent. The series was about whom: the Aztecs, Toltecs or Mayans?
A3)        The Aztecs.

Q4)        Troughton played Father Brennan in which film: Snuff, King Kong or The Omen?
A4)        The Omen.

Q5)        Finally … ? Troughton played Cole Hawlings in what was then the most expensive children’s series ever made. That series was The Box of what?
A5)        The Box of Delights.
Here’s a thought …
“When in doubt, faint.”
Keira Knightley, born 26 March 1985.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I’d love to hear about it, Olga.   It’s also tempting to tell you Pétanque’s a load of old boules … but don’t know if the joke would play well in Spain!
To be frank?   I think you’re right: mixed teams should be feasible.   Most of the darts teams I saw when I was in the pub trade, usually had one or two women in them: yes, there’s Ladies tournaments, but the game’s usually about accuracy, rather than strength.   I say that … but it’s only in the last few years women players have taken part in the Snooker World Championships.
(I think the remake of The Omen was fairly good.   But the soundtrack was nowhere NEAR as scary.   And Mia Farrow wasn’t a patch on Billie Whitelaw.)

Yeah, it was a hell of a convention, Debbi.   (Colin Baker, Nicola Bryant and Tony Selby were the main guests.   Did you know Colin Baker trained as a solicitor … ?   Possibly explains a few things!   Nicola Bryant’s still got the best pair of cheekbones in the business.)

        Hello, Mum!

I'm pleased to hear you have sun there. The poor tournament players had rain this morning, and I didn't stay too long (it was quite cold as well), but yes, there are definitely mixed competitions as well, as I suspected. And I met a world champion in Pètanque, wouldn't you know it! The president of the club organizing the tournament is a national (Spanish) champion, but this woman I spoke to had won a world championship. She is 49 and told me she had been playing since she was 9, so yes, she'd had a lot of training.
I don't think the joke about old boules translates too well, although yes, there are a number of interesting sayings and expressions with "pelotas" as well, in Spanish.
