Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21st July 2024.

21st July, 2024.

Right then … it’s Sunday …

Which means I’ll be getting an early night, tonight: after all, I have an early start tomorrow: and on Tuesday.

I have to be in Basildon, on Tuesday!

~≈🏥≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        21st July, 1645, saw Han Chinese ordered wear a what: hat, toga or queue?

Q2)        The Wingfoot Air Express crashed on 21st July, 1919.   It was a what: fixed wing aircraft, dirigible or hot air balloon?

Q3)        Jay Silverhawk became the first Native American to win a star on the Hollywood of Fame: on 21st July, 1979.   Famously, he’d played who: Tonto, Crazy Horse or Sitting Bull?

Q4)        21st July, 2019, saw residents of Hong Kong attacked.   The attacks were carried out by groups of which Asian gangsters: Triads, Tongs or Yakuza?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Barbenheimer started on 21st July, 2023: with the release of two films.   One of the films was Barbie.   What was the other?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        20th July is International Moon Day.   According to whom: the EU, NASA, the UN or the JSA?
A1)        The United Nations, or UN.

Q2)        It marks the first human landing on the moon.   On 20th July of which year of the 1960s?
A2)        1969.

Q3)        The last manned mission to the moon was in which year of the 1970s?
A3)        1972.

Q4)        At the time of writing, the most recent unmanned landing on the Moon, was by the Chang’e 6  craft: on 3rd May, 2024.   Which country launched the Chang’e 6?
A4)        China.   It’s written 嫦娥六号, in tradition Chinese characters: I believe it’s pronounced chan ge LEE how.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Moon’s gravitational pull is responsible for what: Earth’s tides, sunspots or the black hole at the centre of the galaxy?
A5)        The Earth’s tides.
Here’s a thought …
“The young today cannot follow narrative but they are alert to drama.   They cannot bear description but they love landscape and action.”
Marshall McLuhan, 21 July 1911 – 31 December 1980.
A song …

And an earworm …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

Usually, Olga, that’s why I suggest people write their answers with Word/TextEdit/WordPad/what-have-you: then copy-and-paste things over.   Blogger’s less likely to eat things, that way!
:D.  I’d probably end up on Ubuntu, Olga: if it wasn’t for the mouse issue§!   At any rate … ?   I know Apple have business discounts: and are quite happy to offer bulk order discounts.   And are no worse at production than — say — Asus, HP or Dell.   (Dell’s gaming machine’s have a reputation for being expensive, as well.)
But I think the important point is something easily missed.   We are — for the most part — used to  just the one operating system.   That makes networking them together a lot easier, and there’s more standard file types.   But when something like this happens, and everything falls over at once?   We see where it goes wrong.
Just as a point … ?   China’s been relatively unscathed by the Outage: as the country is NOT as reliant on CloudStrike, or Microsoft Windows.   I know they do this for national security reasons: but think the net result is a little healthier.   They’re not reliant on just one thing.   (Apparently, Microsoft has an arms-length company running their services in China: I imagine that’s another layer of insulation.)

I think I’be be happier being burnt to death, Debbi!   It’s that … or Christopher Lee’s heavy metal LP!

§        Mac mice only have one button, Olga: you just have to put it on the other side of the keyboard, to make it left handed!

Q1) queue

Q2) dirigible

Q3) Tonto

Q4) Triads

Q5) Oppenheimer
Well, it seems that not that many computers were affected by it, but they were some of the ones running huge things, but not if looked at from the point of view of the number of individual users.
In any case, even with the discounts, I'm sure if it worked cheaper, everybody would have Apple computers. As for China... Well, either the country controls the technology or big companies. There doesn't seem to be a good option either way. (And if you want to connect with other people, you still have to enter and use common places. I am impressed by the fact that the guy who shot Trump didn't seem to leave much of a digital footprint, although... )
Oh good luck with tomorrow's appointment and with whatever is taking you to Basildon on Tuesday (I have a class with Jordi tomorrow, so I'll probably get to the blog after you've gone).
