Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 10-9-2024 — The Rock of Gibraltar

10th September, 2024: the Rock of Gibraltar.

Right … it’s official Tuesday!

Which possibly means a lot of things: chief amongst them … ?

The amount of iPhone 16* analysis, after the Apple event, yesterday: including from Radio 4’s Today programme.

Personally?

I’m just disappointed the company didn’t announce a new Mac mini: I’d be interested in hearing how true some of the gossip is!

~≈💬≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum†, Olga‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        10th September is the national day of Gibraltar.   The region is a what: British Overseas Territory or British Crown Dependency?

Q2)        Gibraltar is on the tip of which peninsular?

Q3)        Gibraltar’s dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar.   The Rock is a what: mountain, valley or hill?.

Q4)        What’s Gibraltar’s currency: the Gibraltarian dollar, pound or shilling?

Q5)        Finally … ?   There’s one official language in Gibraltar.   And how many spoken languages: one, two or three?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        9th September is Independence Day in Tajikistan.   It marks the country’s independence from where: the USSR, USA or the Russian Federation?
A1)        The USSR.

Q2)        Modern Tajikistan is a what: republic, monarchy or theocracy?
A2)        A republic.

Q3)        What’s Tajikistan’s capital: Dushanbe, Khujand or Bokhtar?
A3)        Dushanbe.

Q4)        What’s Tajikistan’s currency: the rouble, rupee or the Somoni?
A4)        The somoni.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Does Tajikistan have a coastline?
A5)        No.
Here’s an observation …
“The sovereignty of Gibraltar is a point of contention in Anglo-Spanish relations, as Spain asserts a claim to the territory.”
From the Wikipedia entry on Gibraltar.
A song …

And an earworm …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Has anyone got eight-hundred for an iPhone 16?   No … ?   Never mind!

I’ve corrected the spelling of that currency, Olga¶: hopefully, no-one’s noticed!   But if it is named after a king, it wouldn’t surprise me.   From what I’ve read, there’s a few currencies named ‘royals’ or ‘crowns’ knocking about.
Oh, I read your recent blog post, Olga.   It’s at times like this, I wish my Aunty Bella was still alive: she cared for my Alzheimer’s-affected Grandmother for years, and may have been able to offer some thoughts, if nothing else.
It sounds like you’d’ve had an advantage, regardless of Franco: I get the impression speaking two languages makes it easier to learn a third.   Mind you … it sounds like the Generalissimo was unhelpful … !
Babylon 5’s is definitely interesting: even just two episodes in.   Yes, it’s different to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, but that doesn’t make it bad.   I don’t know if you’d be able to catch all of it: but, apparently, the show’s creator had five years worth of the thing roughed out in advance.

        Hello, Mum!

§        A potato, Debbi?   I’m assuming that’s so you have something to use, to build up hand strength: is that right?   If it’s any help, there’s a whole section in Terry Pratchett’s The Truth, about potatoes!   Here
I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled, there, Debbi¶: I do know Koenig’s character was named after SF writer, Alfred Bester: Bester’s The Demolished Man is about a telepathic cop.   At ANY rate … possibly saying Babylon 5’s Star Trek by Republicans is the wrong way of putting it.   I’m two episodes in: and it seems very gung-ho, compared to early Deep Space Nine’s mysticism.
Oh, last night’s episode had W. Morgan Sheppard, Mark Sheppard’s dad, as the villain of the piece: he turned up as the older Canton Everett Delaware III in The Impossible Astronaut.   Turns out he was Blank Reg, too!

Lt Commander Ivanova has amazing hair.   Umm … … …

Thanks, Paul. Yes, definitely your aunt's knowledge would have come in handy. I know a few people who've had to deal with similar illnesses with their loved ones, but of course, each person's circumstances are different.
And now, the teaser.

Q2) Iberian

Q3) mountain

Funnily enough, I was watching a movie that featured Gibraltar. An oldie and quite interesting one, directed by Carol Reed (of The Third Man fame), The Running Man. It was funny because it features some well known Spanish actors of the era in small parts (it’s from 1963)

I can barely remember the show. I remember Flounder (Stephen Furst) was in it.

Thought of you today. During a webinar, which displayed a corporate logo that had a pennyfarthing as part of its branding! And it wasn't The Prisoner. :)

2. the Iberian Peninsula
