Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th September 2024.

14th September, 2024.

Right, then: Saturdays …

And … ?

The day after Friday.

I managed to afford some shopping, yesterday: but … ?

Need to go back to the high street, as I forgot to pick up some medications.

There’s always something, isn’t there … ?

~≈Ω≈~

There’s a war on, you know.

Or, at least, military action: as Russia’s war on Ukraine carries on.

Yesterday?   Keir Starmer, the UK’s Prime Minister, met with President Biden to discuss a range of subjects.

Including the War in Ukraine: and more aid.

In the shape of missiles capable of hitting Russian military bases, in Russia.

Except … ?

Ukraine isn’t allowed to use the things.

And, as a result of the two hours worth of talks?

Is still not allowed to use the things on Russian territory.

Why?   I don’t know.

But it seems a bloody stupid move to give or sell — at a discount — a lot of long range missiles … and then say to Ukrine, “You’re not allowed to use them.”

What on Earth is the point of that … ?

~≈Ω≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        14th September, 2024, is a Saturday.   When was the date last a Saturday: 2018, 2019 or 2020?

Q2)        14th September, 1960, saw the founding of OPEC.   OPEC is the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting what?

Q3)        14th September, 1954, saw the Soviet Union test the RDS-4 nuclear bomb.   In what they called Operation what: Sundog, Snowball or Suriname?

Q4)        The (then) largest refinery in Europe was opened on 14th September, 1951.   By which British Prime minister: Clement Attlee or Winston Churchill?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Clayton Moore was born on 14th September, 1914.   He played which American hero: Davy Crockett, the Lone Ranger or Buzz Lightyear?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Which country left the Warsaw Pact on 13th September, 1968: Albania, Romania or Yugoslavia?
A1)        Albania.

Q2)        Composer, Arnold Schönberg, was born on 13th September, 1874.   Where: Austria, Germany or Lichtenstein?

A4)        False.   It only takes place on the 13th, in a non-leap year: it would’ve been marked on the 12, this year, as 2024 is a leap year.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus was dedicated on 13th September, 509BC.   The Temple was in which Ancient City: Rome, Athens or Alexandria?
A5)        Rome.
Here’s a thought …
“Life’s short. Anything could happen, and it usually does, so there is no point in sitting around thinking about all the ifs, ands and buts.”
Amy Winehouse, 14 September 1983 – 23 July 2011.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Yeah: I think I got the year wrong for that question, Olga§: I’ve managed to correct it.   As for the biography?   It’s fascinating stuff.   Did you know Sir Terry played Dungeons and Dragons?   Was a dungeon master, a referee, in fact.   (I’m convinced he used TSR’s Lakhmar setting: Fritz Leiber’s influence is all over the opening of The Colour of Magic.   And I think the Luggage started as a magic item in one of Sir Terry’s campaigns.)

        Hello, Mum!

Herbert, Herbert, Herbert!   Sorry, Debbi§¶, I just turned into a space hippy!   At any rate, that was a strange episode: that, apparently, got seriously re-written.   That’s possibly the problem with it.
As for “Miri”?   As I recall, it got banned by the BBC: apparently, they didn’t like the use of the word, “puberty”!

§        That’s a though: Debbi, Olga, I though you might find this, interesting … …

What always surprised me, Debbi, was the fact Charles Napier was in “The Way to Eden”.   The only other time I saw him, he was menacing John Belushi.
