Friday 6 September 2024

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 6th September, 2024.

6th September, 2024.

It’s officially official: it’s Friday.

And … ?

I’ve picked up — and taken — the Mounjaro I’ve been prescribed.

Hopefully, the blood tests I’m due to have, next week, will show what sort of effect it’s having.

I think it’s doing something.

Unlike the Trulicity I was on — but much the Ozempic I was originally using — I get a case of the jitters once I’ve had a dose.

I’m taking that as a good sign.

~≈💉≈~

I don’t know if some things are wise.

I’ve done a few things over the years, that definitely weren’t!

But … ?

I’m thinking about politics, here.

Seemingly?

Donald Trump has confirmed that — should he win this year’s US presidential election? — he’s planning to appoint X owner, Elon Musk, to what Trump calls a ‘government efficiency force.’

After Elon publicly endorsed Trump’s campaign.

Outside of the fact that that sounds like a ‘Cash for Honours’ arrangement?

I don’t think that’s wise.

It’s whiffy, rather than wise: smelly, rather than sensible.

But if appointing a man who owns a media platform is wise, is sensible, is — ha — a good thing?

Then Silvio Berlusconi’s appointment as Italian PM — despite his owning three of Italy’s biggest TV channels, despite his alleged links to the Mafia, despite the many controversies — was very wise, indeed.

~≈🥷≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga scoring six out of six, Debbi on five and Mum on three.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Boris Johnson handed in his formal resignation to the Queen: on 6th September, 2022.   His formal resignation as what: Prime Minister, Foreign Secretary or Home Secretary?

Q2)        6th September, 2022, saw who replace him in that role?

Q3)        Mahmoud Abbas resigned on 6th September, 2003.   As Palestinian what: President, Prime Minister or Ambassador to the UK?

Q4)        According to the Roman Catholic Church, 6th September is whose feast day: Zechariah’s, Jeremiah’ or Micaia’s?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Leon Czolgosz shot the 25th President of the USA: on 6th September, 1901.   Who was that President: Grover Cleveland, William McKinley or Theodore Roosevelt?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The results of a first 2022 Conservative Party leadership contest were announced: on 5th September, 2022.   Who won: Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak or Boris Johnson?
A1)        Liz Truss.   At the time?   There was talk Ms Truss would go down in history as a pub quiz question.   How was I supposed to ignore that?

Q2)        The winner became the UK’s what: Foreign Secretary, Chancellor or Prime Minister?
A2)        Prime Minister.

Q3)        How long did the winner last in that office: forty-seven days, forty-nine days or fifty-one days?
A3)        Forty-nine days.

Q4)        Who appointed the winner to office: George 6th, Elizabeth 2nd or Charles 3rd?
A4)        Elizabeth 2nd.   The late Queen died some three days after Truss’s win was announced.   And they say she never commented on politics.

Q5)        The winner was outlasted by a what: lettuce, legume or lentil?
A5)        A Lettuce.

Q6)        Finally?   The winner was replaced by whom: Rishi Sunak, Theresa May or Boris Johnson?
A6)        Rishi Sunak.
Here’s a thought …
“Art is anything you can do well. Anything you can do with Quality.”
Robert M. Pirsig, September 6, 1928 – April 24, 2017.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

†        Very true, Olga!   I’ve always been tempted to buy Zimmer Bradley’s Mists of Avalon: it’s supposed to be one of the Arthurian novels.   But knowing what I know … ?   Keeping it at arm’s lengths is wise, I think.
To be honest, Olga: it’s something I’m thinking, vaguely, of expanding on.   Or, at least, doing a companion piece for: I’ve had a few people ask for my computer-buying advice, over the years, so something seems appropriate.   We’ll have to see.

It gets worse for her, Debbi!   She was giving a speech, a few months ago: about how wonderful Donald Trump was.   It seems protestors had sneaked into the venue, overnight, and rigged up a banner: that would drop into place, when she started speaking.
She said “That’s not funny,” and walked off stage …
As for what’s next … ?   I refer you to my opening statements!

It always strikes me that intelligent people can be much more dangerous than stupid people, so Elon Musk having any official position with power would be worrying, but, of course, Trump is surrounded by people that one imagines must be a bit more intelligent than he is, but if actually listens to anybody who doesn't sing to his tune, I have no idea. One gets the feeling that he needs a firm nanny...
And your idea about a piece on computers sounds good, and perhaps something for people who aren't very conversant with technology, that would be useful to help navigate some of the basics necessary to do anything these days. (I went to change my internet and phone company today, as the ones I'm with at the moment keep insisting on offering me deals I'm not interested in but charging me more for what I actually want) and there was an elderly man who didn't seem to have much of a grasp of the difference between having your phone connected to wifi or using data. The advisors were trying very hard, but it seems that it was his daughter who had arranged for the package for him. (Basically, this company is installing its own fiber, and if you live somewhere where it is already available, you get a much better deal than if they have to go through a third company, and it seems the man lives in a building that does not have the fibre installed yet. Fortunately, they've already installed it where I live).

There's someone on Substack who frequently mocks Liz, as well as her successor.

She's so funny! But writes about horrors in a funny way. Great satirist.
