Mmmm …
Someone’s going to mention it, aren’t they?
I’ll admit that I’m a fan of Apple products: so know that the iPhone X launch went well, was nice to know.
I’m also aware that — in the recent Paradise Papers leak — they’ve been found to have shopped around various UK off-shore tax-havens: to find the best deal for them.
And been sheltering profits in Jersey.
Personally?
Yes, OK: I can see that’s an argument for making an example of Apple.
But I suspect that they — like any other business on the planet — is behaving the same way other businesses are.
They are, after all, in it for the money.

In other news?
In other news, I’ve got to confess: my tooth still hurts!
I’ve got my next dentist’s appointment on Thursday morning.
I’m very aware I’m in for an hour: hopefully for an extraction, and certainly for a scale and polish.
It’s going to be a rough morning, I know that much.
But, frankly?
If it makes eating more comfortable, I’m laughing.
Once the anaesthetic wheres off!

Let’s move on, shall we?
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1) The October Revolution started in what’s now the Russian Federation: on 7th November, 1917. That’s the date in the Gregorian Calendar. What was the date in the Julian Calendar, then used in Russia?
Q2) 7th November, 1983, saw a bomb explode in the US Capitol building: doing damage, but killing and injuring no-one. The Capitol houses what: the US Supreme Court, the US President’s office or the US Congress?
Q3) As former first lady, Hilary Clinton, would’ve seen the inside of that building. She was elected as a US Senator: on 7th November or which year?
Q4) Leon Trotsky was born on 7th November, 1879. Which Stranglers song mentions his death?
Q5) Finally … Elizabeth Stuart was crowned as Queen of Bohemia: on 7th November, 1619. She was the daughter of which king of England?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) Who was elected as the 16th President of the USA: on 6th November, 1860?
Q2) 6th November, 1528, saw the shipwrecked explorer, Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca, become the first explorer to set foot, where: Florida, Texas or Louisiana?A2) Texas.
Q3) In a referendum on 6th November, 1999, Australia voted to retain the head of the Commonwealth as their head of state. Who is Australia’s head of state?
Q4) An Anglo-French force took control of the Suez Canal: on 6th November, 1956. The Canal goes through which country?A4) Egypt.
Q5) Finally … ? Actor, Nigel Havers, was born on 6th November, 1951. In which Steven Spielberg film does Havers play Dr Rawlins?
Here’s a thought …
“I would like to lose some of the weight that I have put on since I stopped playing football.”John Barnes‡, born 7 November 1963.
And, as it’s Sharlene Spiteri’s birthday … ?
A tune by Texas …
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.
Have a nice day.
* Two halves, you say, Olga? I think I know why they’re doing that. They’re copying some US stations, where it’s a common practise. Basically, they’re having a mid-season hiatus, so that, when it returns, they can boost viewers: and charge more money for advertising space. It’s annoying, and never makes sense, when the series gets repeated on the BBC! Hang on, Lion … ? I think I’ve seen that go past on iTunes: sounds like an interesting change of pace for me. (The Secret Life of Chaos sound like it’s up my street: but is no longer on iPlayer!)
† I have to admit, Debbi, mentioning it, got me watching second Peter Cushing Dr Who movie, yesterday: Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.. It was — until the BBC managed to dig up the Hartnell originals of The Dalek Invasion of Earth — the only version of the story doing the rounds. (Oh, have you and Rick managed to access CBS AllAccess, as yet? I know Rick was interested in Star Trek: Discovery: last night’s episode was rather good.)
‡ It could’ve been worse: I could’ve quoted Sharlene, and had John Barnes, rapping.

Q1) 25th October
Q2) the US Congress
Q3) 2000
Q4) Leon Trotsky was born on 7th November, 1879. Which Stranglers song mentions his death? No More Heroes (I watched a movie about Ramón Mercader when I was in Spain. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chosen_(2016_film)
Q5) James VI (of Scotland) later James I (England and Ireland)
The Chaos documentary is a BBC one but I haven’t checked if it’s still on the BBC i-Player (I assume not as it was on offer by Amazon, but…). Definitely worth a watch. I’m sure they’ll reappear at some point. I don’t understand the issue of the series either (I Know who You Are, I mean). Some people were quite irritated at the series creators for leaving it unsolved but then realised it was nothing to do with them but rather the BBC’s decision. I wonder if it had to go with whatever schedule they had booked. I did watch another episode and it’s getting more intriguing (mind you, I’d give an arm and a leg for living in the house of the protagonists… well, or antagonists, it depends how you look at it. The lawyer and his wife, the judge. Although the lawyer is accused of murder…)
I hope the tooth behaves today. Take care
Unfortunately, we haven't. Rick has been a bit unwilling to pay for extra channels. It's like being drained of money, bit by bit. And we pay a lot for cable plus Netflix. :-/
1. October 25
2. the U.S. Congress
3. 2000
4. No More Heroes
5. James VI and I
If I can talk him into it, maybe someday! :)
