Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21st December, 2018

21st December, 2018.

Yes: the word of the day — and one that’s a frequent visitor to my life — is Bugger … !

I’ve sent off the drivers license form, yesterday.

Complete with fee, photo, proof of ID.

Sent the thing off, yesterday: registered post, wouldn’t you know.

And realised something, this morning, at about half past six … ?

I’d forgotten to sign the bloody form …

This is going to take a while, isn’t it … ?

On other fronts?   Ones LESS worrying for me?

It seems that Gatwick is …

Not back to normal … but reopening for business.

Which is reassuring to know.

Frankly?

I’m curious to know what the hell — beyond a drone holding up a lot of planes — went on, there.

Apparently?   Police say there’s no links to terrorism: and are investigating whether it’s environmental activists …

Which makes sense.

Although my cynical side?

Is wondering if it’s some little twit who’s got a drone as an early Christmas present … and wants to show off* …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor†, Olga‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with all three scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 21st December, 2018, is the 2018 Winter Solstice: in the Northern Hemisphere.   Many churches will celebrate the day as a what Christmas?

Q5) Finally … ?   21st December, 1879, saw the premiere of the play, A Doll’s House.   Which Norwegian playwright wrote A Doll’s House?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 20th December, 1901, saw the birth of physicist, Robert J. Van de Graff.   He, famously, invented the Van de Graff … what?

A2) India’s.   The Curry Club is still going.
Q3) Vespasian claimed the title of Roman Emperor: on 20th December, 69AD.   He originally did what, for Emperor Nero: command a legion, run the Civil service or make cheese?
A3) Command a legion.   He was Legate of the Legio II Augusta legion, when it was one of the legions that invaded Britain.
Q4) 20th December, 1981, saw a lifeboat go missing.   Off The south west coast of where: Cornwall, Devon or Dorset?
A4) Cornwall.
Q5) Finally … ?   20th December, 1803, at a ceremony in New Orleans, saw the US government complete the Louisiana Purchase.   Who did the US buy the territory from?
A5) France.
Here’s a thought …
“I myself have never been able to find out what feminism is; I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat or a prostitute.”
Rebecca West, 21 December 1892 – 15 March 1983.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Chris Grayling, the UK’s Transport secretary, has said that whoever has done this can expect a very long prison sentence.   As an alternative?   Can I suggest that the passengers, airlines, and Gatwick itself … sue the culprit?

†        Shame my brain’s not working as well as the Post Office, Trevor: I could’ve done with signing that form … !

‡        I probably could do with that, Olga: money’s tight … !   As for the form … oy … !

^        The drones … ?   What can I tell you, there, Debbi: I’m half convinced it’s some idiot who thinks he’s clever!

Q1) Blue Christmas
Q2) Not sure. I found a lot of information about food and the Dongzhi Festival, but it says it is the 22nd and it does not mention any boats… OK, now I’ve found information about dragon boat races, but those are in the summer solstice… Is it a trick question? So the Chinese in Australia would celebrate it now? Does it work that way?
Q3) the Arab-Israeli conflict
Q4) Bethlehem
Q5) Henrik Ibsen
Your idea of suing is quite good, if they discover who was the guilty party. Oh well... I've forgotten to sign forms and even cheques before, and they tend to come back pretty quickly, but it won't help with the delays.
Good luck!
