Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17th April, 2022

17th April, 2022.

Yay … !

It’s officially Easter Sunday!

Which means … ?

Not a lot: unless you like a lot of chocolate.

But there you go: have a good one, if you’re marking it.

Oh …

I managed to catch another episode of Star Trek Discovery’s fourth series.

Episode four, so you know.

It’s got to be said: Sonequa Martin-Green is looking increasingly magisterial.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

They day also saw Trevor‡ leaving us a message!

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video. (Today’s video has yesterday’s answers.)

Q1)        17th April is World Hemophilia Day.   Hemophilia — also spelt haemophilia — is a condition of the what: blood, brain or lungs?

Q2)        17th April is Evacuation Day in Syria.   It marks Syria’s independence from where: France, Germany or the UK?

Q3)        The UK’s first national park was named as such: on 17th April, 1951.   Which park was it: the Peak District, Lake District or Dartmoor?

Q4)        17th April, 1974, saw the birth of singer, Victoria Beckham.   She found fame with which British band?

Q5)        Finally … ?   17th April, 2014, saw NASA’s Kepler telescope confirm the existence of what: a black hole, a quasar or an Earth sized planet in a star’s habitable zone?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        16th April is World what Day: World Voice Day, World Hearing Day, or World Sight Day?
A1)        World Voice Day.   I may — if I see some sort of official UN/ WHO sponsored Voice Day — may do a set about it.

Q2)        16th April, 1917, saw who return to his home nation: Josef Stalin, Vladimir Lenin or Leon Trotsky?
A2)        Vladimir Lenin.

Q3)        The George Cross was awarded to the people of Malta: on 16th April, 1942.   During which war: the First World War, Second World War or the One Hundred Year War?
A3)        The Second World War.

Q4)        16th April, 1947, saw Bernard Baruch become the first person to describe relations between the USA and the USSR, as the what: Cold War, False War or Potato War
A4)        The Cold War.

Q5)        Finally … ?   16th April is the Feast day of Saint Drogo.   Some will tell you he’s the patron saint of what: tea, coffee or cocoa?
A5)        Coffee.
Here’s a thought …

“I’m a whore, all actors are whores.   We sell our bodies to the highest bidder.”
William Holden, April 17, 1918 – body found November 16, 1981.

And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

It’s always worth a read, Debbi^.   There’s bond to be something quotable in it.   My copy — like a lot of his work — is near my Mac.
“The purpose of Newspeak was not only to provide a medium of expression for the world-view and mental habits proper to the devotees of Ingsoc, but to make all other modes of thought impossible.”
From On the Principles of Ingsoc, the Appendix to Orwell’s 1984.

I’m thinking that’s what they’ll be doing, Trevor: it would make things a LOT cheaper.   Oh, do you qualify for the Warm Home Discount, the £140 discount?   You might be able to get that, too.

^        Talking of language, Debbi?   There’s a quote from … ohh … Chapter four, I think: about how the Ministry of Plenty made a Categorical Pledge not to reduce the chocolate ration.   Not a promise, a Categorical Pledge.   Years later?   When Tony Blair, in the run-up to his 1997 election victory, started banging on about categorical pledges?   I rolled my eyes heavenward, and muttered ‘chocolate rations,’ every time he was on TV.

Due to the size of my income (Including the state pension, I have 5 pensions) I do not qualify for any means tested benefits like that one. My heating bills are not great because I have had the house fully insulated and all windows and doors are double glazed.

Today I posted off my postal vote for the local council elections. Only the usual boring 3 parties on the voting slip. I added “The Monster Raving Loony Party” and put my “X” by it.

I love the idea of “The Monster Raving Loony Party”! I should start one here. :) Actually, it may already exist. And not in a good way.

Maybe I'll use it in a story!

1. blood
2. France
3. the Peak District
4. the Spice Girls
5. an Earth sized planet in a star's habitable zone

This is a fair test of my typing abilities. :)
