Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-4-2022: UN Chinese Language Day

20th April, 2022.

Right … he says …

After juggling browsers, trying desperately upload today’s Teaser video!

Quite what happened, there?   Beyond the fact Safari couldn’t seemingly interact with the Playlist selector?

I don’t know!

At any rate … ?

At any rate, I’ve a meeting — by phone — with my Job Centre work coach, today.

Assuming she’s not changed the date at the last minute!

Hopefully?   It’ll go well.

Oh …

Remember me mentioning that the local phone mast — the one that got removed from a local office block — had been removed a few years ago?

Theoretically?   The various phone companies have been trying to put up various replacements, ever since.

A couple of days ago?

A phone mast got put up next to the multi-storey car-park in Coptfold Road: in the patch of parkland behind the High Street.

I took the photo, yesterday.

I was twenty foot away from the thing: and still only had three bars worth of signal.

Twenty foot away from a transmitter that — from what I could tell from the signage on the thing? — was put up by O2, my mobile provider.

Three bars: from twenty foot away.

Have you ever had the feeling you’ve been cheated … ?

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring five out of five and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.   (Today’s video has yesterday’s answers.)

Q4)        Hokkien, Mandarin and Hakka, are versions of Chinese spoken in the Republic of China.   The Republic is also known as which ‘T’?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Pinyin is a version of written Chinese that uses which alphabet: Latin, Cyrillic or Greek?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Here’s a thought …
“The longer a language lives, the richer, more diverse and refined it becomes.”
A Cultural History of the Chinese Language, Sharron Gu.
And a playlist …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

Yeah: the whole age appropriate thing’s confusing, isn’t it, Debbi?   The gun thing sounds … well … unsurprising.
Remember Brenda Spencer?   The school shooter who inspired I Don’t Mondays?   Her dad got her a gun for Christmas, 1978: she did the shooting in January of 1979.   She was sixteen.   From what I can remember of Geldof’s biography, her dad complained about the song …

Hello! I'm back! (Sort of). The two classes for today have been cancelled (well, one cancelled, the other rearranged for tomorrow), so I'll see how much catch up I get done.
So the mast has gone up elsewhere... Oh, well. They'll never learn.
Good luck with everything and I hope I'll be here now more often.
