18th April, 2024.
Right … it’s Thursday!
And … ?
I have to confess, Jude — my nephew — was over, last night: posting another video about Mikey the Rabbit.
You wouldn’t think a bunny’s a Liverpool fan, would you … ?

You know … there’s a few MPs who’ve been suspend, over the past few months.
Another — Tory MP, Mark Menzies — had the whip withdrawn, today: for misuse of campaign funds.
Apparently?
He phoned his former campaign manger — who’s in her seventies — to ask for some five thousand pounds (£5, 000) as “… a matter of life and death.”
And did this … at three-fifteen in the morning!
The abuse of funds comes as the money was paid — from their personal funds — by his office manager.
Then re-paid to the office manager from campaign funds.
There’s other amounts: but that’s the headline one.
Yes: I’m thinking what you’re, possibly, thinking.
Why on EARTH was he in a situation where he needed £5000 … at quarter past three in the morning!?
What had he been doing to need that money?
I hate to say I’m suspicious of, and laughing at, Mark Menzies … but I’m suspicious of, and laughing at, Mark Menzies!
Let’s move on, shall we?
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum†, Olga‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1) April 18 is a film made, where: India, the UK or the USA?Q2) The Royal Academy of History was founded: on 18th April, 1738. Where: London, Madrid or Paris?Q3) Lucrezia Borgia was born on 18th April, 1480. Her father was who: the Duke of Milan, the Pope or the one-eye, one-horned, flying purple people eater?Q4) World Amateur Radio Day is marked on 18th April. An amateur radio operator is a what: ham, pork or sausage?Q5) Finally … ? 18th April is Army Day. Where: Iran, Iraq or Israel?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 17th April is Malbec World Day. Malbec is a what: grape, orange or apple?A1) Grape.Q2) It’s used to make what: red wine or white wine?A2) Red wine.Q3) The fruit is one of six varieties used to make wine from where: Bordeaux, Chablis or Provence?A3) Bordeaux. (You can also use Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Carménère: more recently, you can also use Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa. Don’t I sound posh?)Q4) Standard sized wine bottles contain how much wine: 750 millimetres, 1500 millimetres or 3000 millimetres?A4) 750 millimetres. (1500 millimetres, or 1.5 litres, is a Magnum: two standard bottles. 3000 millilitres, or three litres/four bottles, is a double Magnum, or Jeroboam: depending on where you are.)Q5) Finally … ? The Malbec World Day is marked on the 17th, as that’s when President Domingo Faustino Sarmiento decided to celebrate his country’s wine. Which South American country was it … ?A5) Argentina. (I had thought the Faustino wine was named for him. Apparently not: it’s a Spanish vineyard.)
Here’s a thought …
“I started acting at age eight. I was forced to do a play in Manhattan and was cast as King Henry in a bible play. When people began clapping at the end of the play, I realized there was nothing I wanted more than to be on the stage.”James Drury, April 18, 1934 – April 6, 2020.
A song …
And an earworm¶ …
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* The nasty thought occurs: that he was at home, on his laptop and looking at something he shouldn’t be. Then got hit with some well timed emails: the sort that accuse you of looking at kiddie porn, that the sender of the email has the logs and screen shots to prove it … and that they won’t tell the police, if you pay them a lot of money. It gets called sextortion.
The other idea that occurs? Is that he was at another flat, having a (kinky or otherwise) affair … that’s turned nasty.
I need to get out more!
† Hello, Mum!
‡ Oh, that IS sad, Olga! If you could pass my regards on to Pete, please?
Yep: I’ve seen steel toed shoes and trainers too: it strikes me they’d be easier to take off than the steel toe-capped DMs I’ve owned. All three would be quite heavier than their ‘normal’ counterparts: and possibly handy if you want to lose weight.
§ I’ll look forward to it, Debbi! There’s possibly even a song … !
At any rate … ? I think I know what you mean. Jude’s got one of those GoPro cameras: the few times we’ve connected them to my Mac? It doesn’t show up: nor does the SD card, on its own, appear.
Well, I say doesn’t show up … we got the usual “This device is not recognised” message. Quite what’s happening, there, I don’t know.
¶ The only other song as persistent? Was Lange’s version of The Name Game … !

As a last thought … ?
The Pigmeat Markham song’s considered to be an early rap tune.
Q1) India
Q2) Madrid
Q3) the Pope (I think he was quite close to the one-eye, one-horned, flying purple people eater, judging by everything he’s supposed to have done...)
Q4) A ham (although, who knows what else they might be?)
Q5) Iran. That is strange, because I’m sure they showed on the TV the parade for Iran’s Army Day yesterday... Do they celebrate it in advance, or does it last several days?

I won't bore you with the scandals here, but it's becoming beyond ridiculous. The party in power (although it has no majority, so it's a difficult balancing act) is accused by the opposition, and in turn accuses the opposition. Because the opposition has a majority in the Senate, they start an investigating commission there. Then, the party in power set up a commission in el Congreso de los Diputados (equivalent to the House of Commons), and each party threatens with calling the others to declare, and then you have specific regional political figures getting into the mess as well...
I remember I had a patient once, who was bipolar, but had a rather interesting criminal history behind (mostly related to his mental state, but he was also clearly a narcissit and that played a big part in how he presented). He was from a well-off family and was a natural orator. I used to tell him in jest (joking, but not so much) that if he had not got into trouble, he could have made it big in politics. And believe me, he would. He also had a wicked sense of humour. A shame, really.
