Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-9-2024 — The Magic Flute

30th September, 2024: The Magic Flute.

Right, it’s early: or, at least, I’m up early.

It’s Monday: and, as ever, I’m up early, to get to my weight management class.

Hopefully early.

It’s been seen a host of new members, recently, so it would be nice to get to the front of the queue.

About the only down side for today’s trip?

It’s raining, out: heavily.

I hate rain!

Oh … one bit of news I’ve heard, today … ?

Singer and actor, Kris Kristofferson has died.

I didn’t know much of his work: beyond having seen him the Blade Trilogy, and The Rose, and heard Joplin’s version of “Me and Bobby McGee”.

But I can’t help but think it’s a sad thing to hear: the man was quite a talent.

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        The Magic Flute was first performed on 30th September.   Of which year of the 1790s?

Q2)        It was first performance in a theatre, where: Vienna, Salzburg or Innsbruck?

Q3)        The opera’s in which language: French, Italian or German?

Q4)        The Magic Flute is in how many acts: one, two or three?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Who composed The Magic Flute?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The Treaty of Lisbon was signed on 29th September, 1864.   It defined the borders between Spain, and where: France or Portugal?
A1)        Portugal.   (It abolished the micro state of Couto Misto in the process.)

Q2)        29th September, 1911, saw Italy declare war on which empire: the Ottoman Empire, the Austro-Hungarian Empire or China?
A2)        The Ottoman Empire.

Q3)        The then pope called for peace on the island of Ireland: on 29th September, 1979.   Which pope: Paul 6th, John Paul 1st or John Paul 2nd?
A3)        John Paul 2nd.

Q4)        29th September is the feast day of Saint Hripsime.   He’s the patron saint of whom: South Africans, Eritreans or Mongolians?
A4)        Eritreans.

Q5)        Finally … ?   One of the world’s first public, electric tramways opened on 29th September, 1885.   Where: Brighton, Blackpool or Birmingham?
A5)        Blackpool.
Here’s a thought …
“The work is in the form of a Singspiel, a popular form during the time it was written that included both singing and spoken dialogue.”
From the Wikipedia entry on the opera.
A overture …

And an earworm§ …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        That’s always a good move, Olga.   But I always try and keep the three-two-one back up rule in mind.   Which reminds me, I think I need a new back up drive.   The size of the one I’d need is pricy!

        Hello, Mum!

‡        The Singing Detective is rather good, Debbi … !   It’s the only thing I’ve seen that’s been favourably compared to The Prisoner.

§        The obituary on the Today programme tells me that — when he first heard Joplin’s version — Kristofferson started crying: he felt it was a beautifully done version, far better than his.

I love Mozart's music.

Good luck with the weighing today.
