Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 11-10-2016

Hmmm …

That’s seemed to go well.

As you know, I’ve started my new job: yesterday, in fact.

There’s possibly a story or two, there.

The actual training … ?

Seemed to go well enough.

The only problem with the day … ?

Was the trains.

I got myself out of the house on the dot of two in the afternoon.

Plenty of time to get to the station, get the train to Shenfield, get from Shenfield to Chelmsford, and then walk from Chelmsford station to the office.

Only to get to work, half an hour late.

Because someone had killed themselves, by jumping in front of a train, at Chadwell Heath.

Now, I’m sympathetic.

I’ve suffered bouts of depression for many years.

But frankly?

That’s not the thing I wanted to hear on my first day at work!

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) Kathryn D. Sullivan became the first American woman to perform a spacewalk: on 11th October, 1984.   During a mission on which space shuttle?
Q2) Many years earlier, NASA launched its first manned Apollo mission: on 11th October, 1968.   Which Apollo mission: 6, 7 or 8?
Q3) Which camera company filed for bankruptcy: on 11th October, 2001?
Q4) 11th October, 1987, saw a sonar search fail to find Nessie.   According to Fox News, the most recent (possible) photo of the creature was taken in which year?
Q5) Finally … 11th October is International day of the what?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) The Outer Space Treaty came into force: on 10th October of which year of the 1960s?
A1) 1967.
Q2) 10th October, 1975, saw Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, do what: marry, remarry or divorce?
A2) Remarry.
Q3) Fiji became independent: on 10th October, 1970.   Independent of where?
A3) The UK.
Q4) More to the point, what’s Fiji’s capital?
A4) Suva.
Q5) In a speech to her party conference on 10th October, 1980, Margaret Thatcher famously said “The lady’s not for …” what?
A5) Turning.
Q6) Finally … The Millennium Eye, in London, was moved into its final position: on 10th October, 1999.   The Eye is a giant what: roller coaster, Ferris wheel or helter skelter?
A6) A Ferris wheel.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“In the sweep of its appeal, its ability to touch every corner of humanity, football is the only game that needed to be invented.”
Bobby Charlton, born 11th October, 1937.
And this song …

Enjoy your day …

*        I think we can say it went well, Olga.   Well … it went well … bar the transport problem … !

†        Basically, Debbi, my biological father died before I was born: and adopted by my step-father, when my mother remarried!

Q1) Challenger
Q2) 7
Q3) Polaroid
Q4) 2016 (http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2016/09/16/does-this-picture-show-loch-ness-monster.html) No idea what it is but it doesn’t look like a monster…
Q5) International Day of the Girl Child (also International Newspaper Carrier Day, but I imagine you meant the first one. There are so many days of this and that perhaps some will have to be biannual. Not enough days for everything).
Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, it happens everywhere, and yes, depression is a terrible illness. Good about the job. By the way, thanks for the song. I ended up chatting to my mother about her and she reminded me of another song by her that is lovely too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbhVYucS_6I
A nice story about a marriage, theoretically the husband doesn't care for the wife but she gets poems from an unknown man, and always once a year (9th November) gets a bunch of violets, she believes from a secret admirer. She imagines how this admirer might be and is happy. She never gets to know that it's her own husband.
