23rd May, 2024: World Turtle Day.
It’s officially official: it’s Thursday … !
Which means the news has got out.
Yes: we’re due an election on 4th July.
Frankly?
I’m going to wait until the Greens put out a manifesto, and announce if they’re standing in my area.
Before I decide whether to vote for them … or spoil my vote.
~≈🗳️≈~
On a personal front?
I’ve had some news.
I’ve not been contacted by Clarion — my landlords — about any possible refunds on last years service charges.
So?
I contacted them on Tuesday.
Apparently?
The process should take a week … once they get to it.
They couldn’t tell me when that would be.
Not something I’m happy about: and something I intend to keep pestering them about: until I know one way or the other.
The good bit of news I got yesterday?
I put in for a grant to help pay my council tax, a few weeks ago.
It finally went through, yesterday.
That’s a big help: it, effectively, means I have an extra few quid every month.
Let’s move on, shall we?
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.
The day also saw Olga‡ leaving us a message.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here’s a thought …
“Anytime you see a turtle up on top of a fence post, you know he had some help.”Alex Haley.
A song …
And an earworm§ …
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* Hello, Mum!
† Yeah, he gets it all the time, Debbi. Well … up until Mummy stops yelling it! 😂
‡ Yeah, it does seem to be popular, Olga. My sympathies to your friends other half: they sound like they have a rough time, coming!
As for knees? My grandmother, the one we eventually lost to Alzheimer’s, was one of the first people in the UK to receive an artificial kneecap. Which went wrong: the thing slipped around to the back of her knee, and couldn’t be replaced. I believe the procedure’s improved a lot, since then!
§ I would love to have seen Slade live: they, along side the Sensational Alex Harvey Band, and Ian Dury and the Blockheads, had reputations as impeccable live acts!

Your grandmother's operation sounds like a nightmare. I guess the worst thing about it is that after having an operation and all going well, the person must feel more confident and then... Although, of course, the second operation has added problem, because although some time has passed, the other hip is not totally recovered, and the body is still trying to get back to normal.
Another morning of running around trying to sort things out, but at least some of them are done now. And now, we have to wait until the next stage of the assessments come through, and it will be months. (And there is a disconnect between the GP and the chemist and the dates of my mother's patches don't match. Oh, joy!)
Good news at least on the council tax front. Yes, pestering Clarion sounds like a good idea.
Uh oh. Don't want to trigger any bad memories there. :)

Congrats on the grant! And keep pestering the landlords. As Rick would say, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
BTW, the University of Maryland's mascot is a terrapin called Testudo. Still, now I know more about tortoises than I did before.
