Friday 24 May 2024

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th May, 2024.

24th May, 2024.

It’s officially official: it’s officially Friday!

Yay …

Possibly … !

At any rate?

It means I’ve got to pay my utility bills … and then pick up some interdental brushes.

I forgot those, yesterday!

~≈🪥≈~

I’ve got to confess, there’s a general election due: on 4th July, 2024.

And?

I’m thinking I have two choices about where to cast my vote.

Last time?

I went for the Greens: even though I had my doubts about their figures.

And their ignorance about what benefits people get.

They wanted to replace Housing Benefit: seemingly ignorant of the fact that those of us on Universal Credit don’t receive it: it’s, effectively, been replaced already.

If they can replace that?   I could happily vote for them.

If not?

I’d have to think about spoiling my vote, again.

Bar that, or leaving my ballot unmarked, or not voting at all?

I, and others who wish to abstain, have no other choice.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum†, Olga‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        24th May is the feast day of Saints Donatian and Rogatian of Nantes.   Where is Nantes: France, Germany or Spain?

Q2)        24th May, 2024, is a what: Thursday, Friday or Saturday?

Q3)        Henry the Fowler — Heinrich der Finkler, in German — was named as King of East Francia: on 24th May, AD919.   East Francia is now part of which European country?

Q4)        Princess Alexandrina Victoria was born on 24th May, 1819.   She’s better known how?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Brooklyn Bridge opened on 24th May, 1883.   Brooklyn’s at one end.   Which New York borough’s at the other?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        23rd May is World Turtle Day.   Turtles live in the sea, or sea water.   Terrapins live in rivers, or fresh water. Tortoises live on what?
A1)        Land.

Q2)        “The Tortoise and the Hare” as a story by whom: Æsop, Homer or Aristophanes?
A2)        Æsop.   (Or Aesop, if you can’t manage the ‘Æ’)

Q3)        Bert the Turtle appeared in a Civil Defense film called Duck and Cover.   The film was released where: the USA, USSR or UK?
A3)        The USA.   (I get the impression it could easily be re-written: to cover school shootings.)

Q4)        In the book, Esio Trott, one character owns a pet tortoise.   Who wrote Esio Trott: Roald Dahl, Lemony Snicket or Astrid Lindren?
A4)        Roald Dahl.   ‘Esio Trot’ is an anagram of ‘tortoise’.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The squirtle is a turtle-like creature.   In which video game series: Super Mario Bros, Pokemon or FIFA
A5)        Pokemon.
Here’s a thought …
“From forty till fifty a man is at heart either a stoic or a satyr.”
From Act 1 of The Second Mrs Tanqueray, by Arthur Wing Pinero, 24 May 1855 to 23 November 1934.
A song …

And an earworm …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I’ve known for years, that politicians can abstain, can refuse to vote, if they can’t do so in good conscience: or if there’s a conflict of interests in what they’re voting for or against.   Beyond vote spoiling, or not voting?   We voters have no way of abstaining: we cannot, formally, abstain.
I think any party that offers to put an “I Abstain” option on the ballot — maybe with options to re-run that specific ballot if a certain threshold is met — would catch my attention.   I don’t see it happening.   But it would be nice.
One of these days?   And if I had the cash?   Setting up an Abstention Party would be a very good thing!

        Hello, Mum!

She limp for the rest of her life, Olga.   What can I call you?   The double hip replacement sounds just as bad!
That’s always the way, with paperwork: once it’s done, it’s done … until the next time!   I just hope yours lasts!
Oh, I will be!   (Debbi quoted a saying her husbands dug up: “the squeaky wheel gets the grease.”   I couldn’t’ve put it better, myself!)

§        That’s a handy saying of Rick’s, there, Debbi!   I’ve quoted him, already!   And I hate to ask … but does UM’s professors have their heads stuck in their shells … ?   I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist that!
At any rate … ?   Have you managed to catch “Boom”?   The woman who plays Mundy Flynn is Verada Sethu: who’s playing a new companion in Ncuti’s second series.   Or, and Sîan Phillips — Livia, herself! — is in the next episode!

Thanks, Paul, and fingers crossed. I know what you mean about abstaining. Now we have the European elections coming up shortly after the Catalan ones... Just a thought. Tomorrow we have an annual event running (every year the local associations and ONGs have a day when they set stalls in the main shopping street here to inform the public, and also organise activities, demonstrations, workshops, music, dance... The radio station always does a live broadcast, so I'll be there all day. I won't have time to visit but I hope your Saturday is good. Mine will be tiring. Let's hope it isn't too hot (a couple of years back it was unbearably hot, but this year, so far, it hasn't been so extreme).
