Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-5-2024 — The Council of Europe

5th May, 2024: The Council of Europe.

It’s official: it’s Sunday!

And … ?

Well, I had something of a late night: after looking after my nephew!

I think I want to go back to bed.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five and Mum on three.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        The Council of Europe was established on 5th May.   Of which year of the 1940s?

Q2)        How many members are on the Council: forty-four, forty-five or forty-six?

Q3)        The Council’s HQ is in which French city: Paris, Lyon or Strasbourg?

Q4)        Canada, Japan and the US are Council of Europe whats: observers, associate states or guests?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The council shares its flag — and anthem — with whom: the UN, EU or OAU?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        4th May, 1776, saw Rhode Island renounce its allegiance to the King.   Which King: George 3rd, Charles 3rd or Richard 3rd?
A1)        George 3rd.

Q2)        4th May, 1912, saw Italy seize an island from the Ottoman Empire.   Which island: Evia, Lesbos or Rhodes?
A2)        Rhodes.

Q3)        The HMS Sheffield was sunk on 4th May, 1982.   During a British war with which country?
A3)        Argentina.

Q4)        Audrey Hepburn was born on 4th May, 1929.   Where: Austria, Belgium or Croatia?
A4)        Belgium.

Q5)        Finally … ?   4th May is Independence Day in Albania: true or false?
A5)        False: Albanian Independence Day is on 28th November.
Here’s a thought …
“The Council of Europe [ … ] is an international organisation with the goal of upholding human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Europe.”
From the Council’s Wikipedia entry¶.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!   (Olga said ‘Happy Birthday’, Mum!)

Cheers, Olga, I’ll pass that on!   (We’ve got dinner planned, at Ruth’s!)

New York?   I’m staring at half a dozen funny lines, there, Debbi, but very aware I don’t want to offend the one New Yorker I know!   ;)
Yes, we get Ghosts, Debbi§.   Both the US remake … and the UK original.   I’ve not seen the US version: but the UK one finished with a gorgeous, and touching, Christmas special, last year.

§        Just as points of trivia for you, Debbi?   Charlotte Ritchie — who’s the main character in the UK version — played Lin in the Dr Who episode, ”Resolution”.   And Geoffrey McGivern plays the creepy neighbour: you’ll know him as the original radio version of Ford Prefect.
Oh, and Kylie can see ghosts …

I always worry if I’m using those square brackets, correctly!

OMG! I keep forgetting we got the idea for the series from you guys/folks/nice people over there! Uh ... thank you!

That reminds me. I happened to notice some channel had the thoroughly awful remake of The Prisoner in its lineup. The spirit of Patrick McGoohan must be fuming somewhere. :)
