So, when I got another one request from the ONS, asking for volunteers for swab testing, and threatening to give volunteers a £50 voucher?
I bravely stepped forward.

Yes, I knew about the Alex Hailey connection. I remember watching a documentary about Hailey's trip to Africa and it was fascinating, although much of the content of Roots has been questioned, but then, it wouldn't be an easy task.
