Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 11-3-2021: Harold!

11th March, 2021.

Hmmm …

One upside of the whole Covid lockdown?

Is the fact that — in the quiet you get when there’s little travel, little in the way of traffic noise — you can hear birdsong.

OK: most birdsong is male birds say “STAY OFF MY BUSH,” as loudly as possible.

Or yelling “I’M SEXY: LET’S REPRODUCE,” as seductively as possible.

Today … ?

There’s none of that.

Not with the wind that’s going on … !

If you’ve been following Nik Nik’s Old Peculiar for the past few days?   You’ll’ve noticed I — like many of us — have been following the disappearance of Sarah Everard*.

Yesterday?   The policeman who was arrested for her kidnap has been re-arrested: on murder charges.

Yesterday?   Human remains were found: ones being linked to the case.

My sympathies are with the family.

My memory goes back to the Yorkshire Ripper.   And looks at the recent interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

And asks if Sarah Everard had been black, or a prostitute working in the area?

Would there be this level of press interest?

My cynical side says “No.”

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor†, Edith‡, Mum^, Olgaª and Debbiº‚ putting in their answers: with Trevor, Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, Mum on four, and Edith on two.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        11th March saw the birth of former Prime Minister, Harold Wilson.   In which year?

Q2)        In which year of the 1960s, did he first become Prime Minister?

Q3)        From 1970 to 1974, Harold was leader of which O?

Q4)        He became Prime Minister for the second time, in 1974.   What was his official London residence, as Prime Minister?

Q5)        Finally … ?   As Prime Minister, Harold Wilson would have chaired what: the Board of Trade, the Cabinet or the United Grand Lodge of England?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        10th March, 1997, saw the debut of Buffy The Vampire Slayer.   The show’s creator has been accused of various forms of bad behaviour.   Who is that creator?
A1)        Joss Whedon.

Q2)        10th March, 1956 saw the birth of actor, Robert Llewellyn.   Which character does he play in Red Dwarf: Dave Lister, Rimmer, Cat or Kryten?
A2)        Kryten.

Q3)        10th March is the feast day of Saint John Ogilvie.   Saint John Ogilvie was from which country of the UK?
A3)        Scotland.

Q4)        10th March, 2012, saw the death of French artist, Jean Giraud.   What was his pen name: Moebius, Bachmann or Kotter?
A4)        Moebius.

Q5)        Finally?   10th March, 1629, saw Charles 1st dissolve what: the Church of England, Parliament or the Privy Council?
A5)        Parliament.   (At the time, the Westminster Parliament only ruled England.)
Here’s a thought …
“May I say, for the benefit of those who have been carried away by the gossip of the last few days, that I know what’s going on.”
Harold Wilson.
And a thinly veiled attack on Harold Wilson’s tax policies …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        That’s the Wikipedia entry on her disappearance.   I’m unsurprised …

†        I think I remember that series, Trevor: wasn’t James Bolam in it?

‡        I’m looking forward to it, Edith!   It’s very windy, at the moment!

^        Hello, Mum!

ª        You’re right, Olga: that is straight out of EastEnders!   Or possibly Corrie!   Unless they thought is was unrealistic!   The real world case?   Has taken a nasty turn: the officer’s been re-arrested for murder.   I’d like to say I didn’t see that coming …

º        Get Carter?   I’ve not seen it in years, Debbi!   If you’re wondering about the ‘thin glass,’ he asks for in the pub, it’s one of these¹:

¹        The bulge at the top is supposed to make it easier to hold.

Yesterday I watched 4 episodes of “The Beiderbecke affair” Only 2 more to go in the original series. Yes James Bolam played the lead character Trevor Chaplin.

I enjoyed rewatching the series after all these years.

Trivia fact about “Get Carter”. The original book that the film was based on was set in the Scunthorpe area. After being filmed in the North east around the Newcastle area the book was re-edited and re-release with the areas mentioned in the film.

That is a cynical comment Paul! Wilson was also Prime Minister when The FORD sewing machinists revolted against their salary, not on a par with the men. They went to meet Barbara Castle to air their grievances, Barbara then brought in the Equal pay act 1970 I stil1 think there is a long way to go in some professions. Bit of history for you.

You were unfortunately right about the poor woman. Yes, it's impossible not to wonder why some people (adults, children, etc) seem to get so much media attention and others so little. But very sad news indeed.

Now, that's an old song there. I remember the mention of good old Harold in the lyrics. :)

Well, at least you guys have a health care system. Here, we have, um, disagreements. And ... it's a mess. :)
