Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30th March, 2021.

30th March, 2021.

Hmmm …

I THINK I hate the shift from GMT to BST.

I am still feeling tired when I get up in the morning!

Compared to before the clocks changed … when I’d be bouncing around the flat at five in the morning … !

I am officially getting old …

~≈🕰≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Trevor†, Mum‡, Debbi^ and Edithª putting in their answers: with Trevor, Olga, Debbi and Edith scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        30th March, 1905, saw the birth of Albert Pierrepoint.   He was one of Britain’s best known what: hangmen, policemen or cheesemakers?

Q2)        30th March, 1841, saw the National Bank of Greece open.   What’s the current currency of Greece?

Q3)        Sir William Crookes announced he’d discovered thallium: on 30th March, 1861. Is thallium a metal or non metal?

Q4)        Morocco became a French protectorate on 30th March, 1912.   Morocco is on which continent: Africa, Europe or Asia?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Vincent van Gogh was born on 30th March, 1853. Which nationality was he: Dutch, German or French?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        29th March, 1974, saw the Mariner 10 probe fly past where: Mercury or Venus?
A1)        Mercury.

Q2)        Jennifer Capriati was born: on 29th March, 1976.   She plays what?

A4)        Marathon.

Q5)        Finally … ?   29th March, 1869, saw the birth of architect, Sir Edwin Lutyens.   The Cenotaph in Whitehall was designed by him, and was built in the wake of which War: WW1 or WW2?
A5)        WW1.
Here’s a thought …
“I can’t tell you how beautiful it was there in the twilight.”
Vincent van Gogh, 30 March 1853 – 29 July 1890., in a letter to his brother, Theo. (His surname’s pronounced like this.)
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        It’s always the way, I think, Olga: the more things change, the more things stay the same!   I’m wondering what people will be doing, a century from now: assuming there’s another big pandemic.
Hang on … it’s parallel to the Equator?   You wouldn’t get a street like it in the West End, I know that!   Did I ever mention I was an usher at the Dominion, many years ago?   Back when it was showing Barnum?   We had to wear clown makeup, from what I remember!   Lord knows why people were telling me I looked like Jack Nicholson!

†        Os, some of the painters were gay, Trevor.   Some of the priests … ?   Well … !
At ANY rate, I can appreciate using the phones will be confusing.   But look at it this way, Mum managed to do the updates that were causing issues: and she’s about the same age you are.
JUST so you know, though?   You should have a phone icon, somewhere: usually on the dock at the bottom.   You can press that to enter The number you want to call, OR to pick a contact you want to phone or message.   You can ALSO hit the Message icon, if you just want to send a text.   You should, if you can GET to Terminal, be able to do all sorts: you’re using Android, a version of Linux, which is based on Unix.   If you can get to a terminal on there, you should be able to make it jump through hoops …
Oh, Mum mentioned she’d got things wrong, when I went for dinner.

‡        Hello, Mum!   Oh, Trevor spotted the mistake.

^        Her death was like Natalie Woods’, Debbi: an utter tragedy!   Kirsty went far to soon.   Still, there’s quite a few tunes …

ª        Oh, cheers, Edithº!   That’s a lovely tune for first thing in the morning!   Did you know George Formby — he’s from way back — played a banjolele?   It was a ukulele modelled on a banjo …

º         Actually, Edith, do you remember a Dr Who episode called Mummy on the Orient Express?   Frank Skinner, who plays Perkins, is a fan of Formby’s, and plays the Ukulele, himself.

JUST a thought, Trevor, and you’ve possibly worked it out, already: you’ll need to store your phone numbers in Contacts …

You could type them in manually, but … …

Q1) Hangmen (I love the movie, and although I’m sure I’d watched Timothy Spall in many things before, I started watching almost anything he’s been in since. He looks quite different now, I must say)

Q2) The euro.

Q3) A metal

Q4) Africa

Q5) Dutch
Yes, parallel to the Equator. One of the men who joined the walk asked the guide/author if he'd found out if the design of the street was intentional or not, but he said he hadn't, although considering the way much of the newest part of the city was planned by this guy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ildefons_Cerd%C3%A0), it is likely to have been intentional, although there is the story that there had been a bar/inn called El Paral·lel long before the avenue was planned. Barcelona has very different bits, and, of course, was traversed also by big Roman roads as well, so I guess there's been plenty of planners and builders over the years.
You've worn many hats, for sure. I don't remember reading about your work at the theatre. My uncle John (Juan, but as he lived in London many years he became John) had worked as head of waiters at the Mermaid Theatre and loved it. Unfortunately, when they undertook a big refurbishment project many years ago (he's been retired now for many years and is living in Spain as well) they let their staff go, with promises of having them back when they reopened, but as is the case with those kinds of projects, it took forever and by the time they reopened, he'd found another position with more convenient working hours, but he has plenty of stories to tell about his time there. None that involved wearing special makeup, though!

A1 Hangmen

You do not know what Jet-lag really is. A mere hour change hardly does anything to the body clock. It was never too bad for me flying from London to Vancouver. A 9 ½ hour flight and 8 hours time difference. You normally landed at a time before you took off. Flying from Vancouver to London still a 9 ½ hour flight used to take me at least a couple of days to get over.

Flights around Europe never gave me jet-lag.
