Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd October, 2021

3rd October, 2021.

Yes: it’s Sunday.

And yes: I’m frankly expecting it to be quiet.

But with a distinct possibility the weather’s going to be better than yesterday’s.

Yesterday’s … was distinctly soggy.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, MumTrevor‡, Edith^ and Debbiª, putting in their answers: with Olga scoring five out of five, Trevor, Edith and Debbi on four, and Mum on three.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        Muhammad 7th became Emir of Granada: on 3rd October, 1392.   The Emirate was in what’s now which country … ?

Q2)        Iraq became in independent kingdom: on the 3rd October, 1932.   Independent from where: the UK, the Ottoman Empire or Saudi Arabia … ?

Q3)        Saint Francis of Assisi died on 3rd October, 1226.   The Franciscan monks are named for him: but are correctly known as the Order of Friars what: major, minor or mandible?

Q4)        3rd October, 1935, saw an Italian army invade where: Ethiopia, Zambia or South Africa?

Q5)        Finally … ?   3rd October is the feast day of Abd-al-Masih.   He’s a saint to whom: the Syriac Orthodox Church, the Roman Catholic Church or the Egyptian Coptic Church?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Gordon Sumner was born on 2nd October, 1951.   He’s better known as which English singer: Elvis Costello, Simon Le Bon or Sting?
A1)        Sting.

Q2)        More to the point, he sang, and played bass, for which English band: the Attractions, Duran Duran or the Police?
A2)        The Police.

Q3)        2nd October is the feast day of Saint Leodegar.   He was a bishop of where: Paris, Perpignan or Poitiers?
A3)        Poitiers.

Q4)        Richard 3rd was born on 2nd October, 1452.   He was the last king from which house: York, Lancaster or Tudor?
A4)        York.

Q5)        Finally … ? Richard Hell was born on 2nd October, 1949.   He was the bassist — and lead singer — of which US band: Television, the Ramones or Guns and Roses?
A5)        Television.
Here’s a thought …
“Envy is the central fact of American life.”
Gore Vidal, born October 3, 1925 — died July 31, 2012.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Edward Lear, Olga, or Richard Hell?   I have to admit, I know very about either.   Bar that fact Lear was supposed to be very good at sketching birds!
Oh, THAT’S a geode!   Yes: cracking those open would be something to watch.   How on Earth does he know if a bit of rock’s a geode before hand!?   Experience … and an education in Geology, yes?   Give me a couple of minutes to kick myself for not thinking, there!
€10 sounds a good price for something that gorgeous: it’s about £8, if I’ve got the conversions right. Which is a good price: especially when you consider some of the New Age shops around here charge a fortune for them.

        Hello, Mum!

Oh, … right … Britannia Airport, Trevor …
Right … I’ll be honest, Trevor, I’m going to put my foot down on the scores: ‘quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final,’ and all that!   (Considering he — and a lot of his family — are listed as ‘of Poitiers!’)

^        I’m glad I could help, Edith!   I’m just thinking, I’ll have to do another International Music Day set: but that’s going to be a while away … !

ª        Fish don’t need a bicycle, Debbi: just bigger stilts!
And yeah: the US rental market sounds messier than the UK’s.   I’d imaging a federal, state, county, city/town and parish levels can’t be good!
Pointless trivia for you, though: apparently, Lear’s bird drawings are considered to be on a par with J. J. Audubon’s.

Q4) Ethiopia

Q5) The Syrica Orthodox Church
The meteor hunter told me that he saw people cracking up geodes in the US, and it seems Mexican miners retrieve them and buy sacks full of them (I imagine fairly cheaply). Of course, you don't know exactly what you will find inside, and sometimes they don't open well, but he lets buyers pick another one until they find one with something inside, so it is quite fun. We were there and there was a woman who had five goes (it isn't that there isn't anything there, but sometimes they aren't very spectacular). This woman's friends, who had her own go and got a pretty nice one (5 euros only) the first time around, like one of the cracked ones, and he gave it to her free of charge. He so enjoys it as well. There was a little girl who picked up one and it was quite beautiful inside, and he said that just to see her face was worth it. (It was quite funny because the little girl was worried for the rocks)!
