Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16th November 2024.

16th November, 2024.

Right … exciting things have been known to happen.

On Fridays, certainly.

My nephew was over, last night: and managed to upload another game video.

If you’d like to press the ‘Like’ button?

He’d thank you for it.

On other fronts?

I’ve actually had a thing fitted: to help me get into the bath.

It’s basically a bath mounted office chair I can sit in, and swivel around.

The only minor problem … ?

I need a step-stool to get to it!

Ho … … hum … !

~≈🛀🏼≈~

Oh, I’ve got a delivery coming: from Apple.

And had a message, via WhatsApp, from DHL: to let me know it’s on it’s way, and that I’d need to sign for it.

It’s genuine: I have checked.

But … ?

I did manage to check the tracking number DHL gave me.

The package … … … was in Shenzhen, in China.

深圳市, for heaven’s sake!

When I checked, a few hours later … ?

It was in Hong Kong.

I hate to use the word ‘premature’.

But the word, ‘premature’, springs to mind!

Especially as the package arrives at Stansted, next week … !

~≈📦≈~

Just as a last thought … ?

I’ve officially been sent a letter from Brentwood Council: giving me a refund of Council Tax.

Which is nice.

But … ?

You can take the bills into your local post office: and pay them there.

There’s a bar code on the things that lets you do that.

There’s a bar code on the refund that should — in theory — let us claim the refund at a post office.

But?   According to the phone conversation I had with a worker at Brentwood Council?

We can’t.

We have to have the refund paid into a bank, and apply online.

I can appreciate it’s a security thing.

But, frankly?

There’s a good chunk of my neighbours who aren’t going to be able to do that.

They’re not computer literate enough: even for a comparatively simple task like this.

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        16th November, 2009, saw the death of actor, Edward Woodward.   He played Lt. Harry Morant in which film: The Wicker Man, Breaker Morant or Wet Job?

Q2)        The Sound of Music made its Broadway debut on 16th November.   Of which year of the 1950s?

Q3)        16th November, 1990, saw a noted German band stripped of a Grammy award: as they were found to have mimed their hits.   Which German band: Kraftwerk, Milli Vanilli or Rammstein?

Q4)        According to the United Nations, 16th November is the International Day for what: Tolerance, Typing or Tastiness?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Arecibo Message was broadcast to outer space: on 16th November, 1974.   From a telescope, where: Puerto Rico, Jamaica or Saint Kitts?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        15th November is the International Day for the Prevention of and Fight against All Forms of Transnational Organised Crime. According to whom: the United Nations, European Union or FIFA?
A1)        The United Nations, or UN.

Q2)        That body’s police force usually polices what: peacekeeping missions, embassies or neutral countries?

Q3)        What’s the name of the world’s international police body: Interpol, the Metropolitan Police or Service Stations?
A3)        Interpol.

Q4)        Generally speaking, police need a ‘w’ to arrest someone.   Which ‘w’?
A4)        An arrest warrant.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Sinaloa Cartel is a transnational crime group.   It, and others like it, specialise in what: drug trafficking, sex trafficking or cybercrime?
A5)        Drug trafficking.
Here’s a thought …
“Like the seasons of the year, life changes frequently and drastically. You enjoy it or endure it as it comes and goes, as it ebbs and flows.”
Burgess Meredith, November 16, 1907 – September 9, 1997.
A song …

And an earworm with chainsaws§!

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

You’d need your hill-walking legs, Olga: apparently, that part of Folkestone makes San Francisco look flat!

That he does, Debbi!   Oh, the BBC’s Children in Need appeal aired a clip from the Christmas special, last night: you might need TorBrowser to to view this …

§        The only other time I know a band used angle grinders in a performance?   Was an Australian industrial band called SPK, in their one appearance on the Tube: and, yes, I remember seeing it the first time around …

Q1) Breaker Morant

Q2) 1959

Q3) Milli Vanilli. I remember it well. A friend of mine was a big fan of theirs… Well, or of whomever sang for them.

Q4) Tolerance

Q5) Puerto Rico (I always want to start singing ‘America’ from West Side Story when somebody mentions Puerto Rico…)
I'll get training. I used to live up a pretty steep hill, and I would walk up and down often, but although Barcelona isn't flat (there are several hills around), where my mother lives is quite flat.
I hope the chair helps, even if it is not perfect...
