Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7-11-2024 — Marie Curie.

7th November, 2024: Marie Curie.

Right … it’s officially Thursday.

And … ?

I’ve not got appointments,  or medical stuff, booked.

Nope … instead, I’ve got my nephew, around, this afternoon …

And a quick visit to my regular pharmacist: to see if they have a ’flu jab they can give me.

If it’s not one thing … ?

It’s another!

~≈💉≈~

Oh, if you’re in Brentwood?

You’re possibly aware of the Sugar Hut, in Brentwood High Street: the venue that used to be the White Hart, and home to The Only Way Is Essex.

Apparently?

It’s up for sale, after the death of the owner.

For just shy of four million pounds.

At that price … ?

Well … would you want a used night club … ?

~≈🍺≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on three.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Marie Curie was born on 7th November.   In which year of the 1860s?

Q2)        Where: Poland, Estonia or Belorussia?

Q3)        She won her first Nobel prize in 1903: among side her husband, Pierre Curie, and Professor Henri Becquerel.   The award was for their work on what: radiation, optics or electromagnetism?

Q4)        She won her second Nobel Prize for discovering two radioactive elements.   In which year was that win: 1910, 1911 or 1912?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Her second Nobel Prize was won for discovering two radioactive elements.   Name one of those elements.
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        6th November, 2001, saw the birth of Day’Ron Sharpe.   He plays what: American Football, baseball or basketball?
A1)        Basketball.

Q2)        Hero Fiennes Tiffin was born on 6th November, 1997.   He plays an eleven year old Tom Riddle: in which Harry Potter movie?
A2)        Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.   (Apparently, Hero’s ‘Fiennes Tiffin’, double-barrelled surname is unhyphenated: as his parents were unmarried.)

Q3)        6th November is the feast day of Saint Illtud.   He’s from which country of Great Britain: England, Wales or Scotland?
A3)        Wales.

Q4)        Cricketer, Jack O’Connor, was born on 6th November, 1897.   He played test cricket for which national side: England, Australia or South Africa?
A4)        England.

Q5)        Finally … ?   According to the UN, 6th November is the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the what in War and Armed Conflict: the environment, children or moon?
A5)        The environment.   (I like the idea of a UN sponsored, commemorative day.   I just wish the names weren’t so much of a mouthful!)
Here’s a thought …
“I am among those who think that science has great beauty.”
Marie Curie.
And a ballad …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!   (It was half BLOOD prince, Mum!)

I don’t know that US elections are that complicated, Olga.   You win the presidency if you win the electoral college votes: you win all the electoral college votes, if you win the popular vote in each state.   It’s similar — I’d’ve said — to the UK’s.   Here, you get named PM if you’re the leader of the party who gets the most seats: neither depends on the popular vote.
Quite what happens now he’s President-elect?   I don’t know.   The only way I can see of stopping him is if he’s either shot§ … or if he’s imprisoned as a result of the criminal charges.   Hmmm …

‡        I don’t know if it’s 1984, Debbi … possibly more of a ding-dong … a closely run ding-dong¶ … !   As for voting in a convicted felon … ?   Can he issue himself a presidential pardon … ?   Get off the hook, that way?   I have a nasty feeling he’ll try!
I’m sorry, Debbi, you can’t give the Revolution, back, now!   🤣

§        Let’s face it, Olga, shooting him hasn’t worked.

I was never too sure of the usage, Debbi: but, if I’ve understood it, correctly, a ding-dong is a heavy fight … with lots of repetitious blows …

Well, in Russia a lot of people fall off windows... Just saying.
The Electoral College, for what they were saying, has been removed from most countries. It is not a fair reflection of the popular vote, because irrespective of the number of votes, if you win by 1 in one of the big states, you get the whole of the electoral votes of that state, but of course, the looser might have many more votes if they have won the big states, and still end up with fewer electoral votes... In any case, I'm not sure any system is fair, and people are not necessarily well-informed when they vote, but that is democracy, I guess, and free will. You are allowed to make bad decisions.
As I was telling Edith, perhaps nature will do us all a favour. He is getting on, and no matter how good the medical care he gets, his lifestyle isn't the best.
