Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-11-2024 — Albania

28th November, 2024: Albania.

Yes: it’s officially official.

And I have nothing planned: bar helping a neighbour with her printer.

I do know I was looking after my nephew, last night.

And, on the way home?

Managed to see two — two — badgers run across the road: right in front of me.

That wasn’t the only wildlife I saw.

The fox I saw in Railway Square … ?

The one I tried to keep a polite distance from … ?

Watched me, nervously, as I walked past.

Those … ?

Were something to see.

~≈Ü≈~

But not necessary something to feel.

Like I say, I was at my sister’s, with my nephew, Jude.

Who managed to catch this photo of Bobby the Cat:

Bobby has a thing about washing my ear … … … …

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        28th November is Independence Day in Albania.   It mark’s the country’s independence from which empire?

Q2)        Albania is part of which region: the Balkans, Baltics or British Isles?

Q3)        What’s Albania’s capital: Tirana, Durrës or Vlorë?

Q4)        Some fifty percent of Albanians practise which religion: Christianity, Islam or Hinduism?

Q5)        A Ballokume is an Albanian what: beer, loaf or cookie?

Q6)        Finally?   Which British comedy star was popular in Albania: Charlie Chaplin, Norman Wisdom or George Formby?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Lashana Lynch was born on 27th November, 1987. She plays 007 in which James Bond film?
A1)        No Time To Die.   (You can see 007 meeting 007, here)

Q2)        Singer, Chanyeol, was born on 27th November, 1992.   He’s a member of which boy-band: BTS, Day6 or Exo?
A2)        Exo.

Q3)        27th November is the feast day of Saint Leonard of Port Maurice.   The Port Maurice in question is in which European nation?
A3)        Italy.   (Its Italian name is ‘Porto Maurizio’.)

Q4)        27th November is the feast day of Clovis 1st.   He was a king of whom: the Franks, Germani or Bretons?
A4)        The Franks.

Q5)        Finally … ?   James Pratt and John Smith were hanged on 27th November, 1835.   They were the last two people hanged for which crime: sodomy, barratry or bribery?
A5)        Sodomy.
Here’s a motto …
“Ti Shqipëri, më jep nder,
më jep emrin Shqipëtar.”
“You Albania, give me honour,
you give me the name Albanian”
Albania’s motto.
A song …

And an earworm§ …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The next ten question set is on 30th November, 2024.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!   (Did I tell you the cat was licking my ear, last night?)

Yeah, K-pop’s getting popular, Olga: apparently, it’s worth a mint.   And yes, Chris Rea played a blinder, there!   It’s one hell of a tune!   (So’s today’s earworm!)

I don’t know that they’d mind, Debbi … so long as nothing illegal’s going on!   (The original Groucho’s chock full of showbiz people and media types.   Quite what the “serious offence” was, I don’t know!)

§        “Life in a Northern Town” was the Dream Academy’s only hit.   I grant, the band was a little too posh for my taste: and granted, they were a one-hit wonder … but the song is a beautiful tune.   It’s also sampled in Dario G’s “Sunchyme”: possibly one of the most joyous pieces of music I’ve heard.

I don’t know if it’ll show up at your end, Debbi: but the Eno album I bought was Music for Installations.

It’s on the UK branch of Spotify, here …

Q1) The Ottoman Empire

Q2) the Balkans

Q3) Tirana

Q4) Islam

Q5) a cookie

Q6) Norman Wisdom
Yes, I remember that song as well. It is difficult to know why some comedians or actors become popular in countries that have nothing to do with their own. I remember Benny Hill was very popular here when I was a child (talk about inappropriate content), but then the life of comedians here in Franco times was difficult, because there were so many things you weren't allowed to talk about...

3. Tirana

Fascinating about Norman Wisdom. One country's comic has-been is another one's comic savior? :)

This is what I like about the internet.

Not bad for a Thursday. :)

I was just reading about Norman Wisdom and Charlie Chaplin. Both were raised in extreme poverty.

So was John Lydon. Now, I want to read his autobiography, "Rotten". :)

Still not bad for a Thursday. :)
