Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9-11-2024 — A Nightmare on Elm Street

9th November, 2024: A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Right … I’ve told you I’m getting Personal Independence Payment.

And have to admit: I’ve had enough left to buy a new computer: a new, and somewhat more powerful, M4 Mac mini.

That should be enough to deal with the upcoming Apple Intelligence updates: and let me export videos in the larger, 4k, resolution, far more easily than I can at the moment*.

But … ?

I’d also like to thank Olga, Debbi, Mum, Anna, Ruth, Sean, Laura, Kate, Alan, Carly and everyone else who helped me buy the M2 mini sitting to my immediate left: as their help has enabled me to keep both blog, and YouTube channel, going …

And allowed me to offset some of the cost of a new machine.

Thank you, wherever you are!

In other news … ?

My nephew, Jude, was over, last night.

I think I should say two things.

One?

He’s a very polite young man!

Two?

Yes, he HAS made another video!

Yesterday was busy.

As, first thing in the morning, I had a visit from an occupational therapist: visiting to see if there were any adjustments that could be made to my flat.

She made a lot of notes: and suggested a few things.

Or, at least, agreed a few things.

Lowering the kitchen cupboards, installing a walk-in shower, and — at the very least — having some sort of help getting into the bath/shower.

She’s going to be passing on those suggestions to my GP, and my land-lords.

And also suggested that I pass put in a request to Essex County Council’s Adult Social Care section: so that they can carry out an assessment.

They — going by the phone call I made to them — should be getting back to me within about four weeks.

Hopefully?

Once all the assessments are done, and funding agreed, the process won’t take long.

For — to paraphrase Sir Terry Pratchett — a given value of ‘long’ … and ‘funding agreed’.

I get the impression that funding will be the sticking point …

Just as a final piece of sad news … ?

Tony Todd — who made many appearance in Star Trek — has died.

He’ll be much missed: and best remember for one of horror’s iconic figures, the Candyman …

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum† and Olga‡ putting in their answers: with Olga scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        A Nightmare on Elm Street debuted on 9th November.   Of which year of the 1980s?

Q2)        In which country: the US, UK or Canada?

Q3)        It was written and directed by whom: Wes Craven, Wesley Snipes or Steven Spielberg?

Q4)        Amongst others?   The film was made by which production company: New Line Cinema, Disney or RKO?

Q5)        The film’s heroine is played by Heather Langenkamp.   What’s the heroine’s name: Laurie, Nancy or Sally?

Q6)        The heroine is the last character to confront the film’s villain.   As such, she’s what’s called a final what?

Q7)        What was the villain’s name: Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger or Michael Myers?

Q8)        Who played that villain: Gunnar Hansen, Robert Englund or Billy Bob Thornton?

Q9)        That villain’s main weapon was a bladed what: glove, shoe or hat?

Q10)        Finally … ?   Which Hollywood superstar made his debut in A Nightmare on Elm Street: Johnny Depp, Charlie Sheen or Brad Pitt?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        8th November, 1990, saw Mary Robinson elected as the first female president of where: Ireland, India or the USA?
A1)        Ireland.

Q2)        Montana became part of the USA: on 8th November, 1889.   Is Montana on a US coast?
A2)        No.

Q3)        8th November is the international day of what: radiology, psychiatry or philology?
A3)        Radiology.

Q4)        Gordon Ramsey was born on 8th November, 1966.   He was awarded an OBE in 2006. For services to what: catering, the TV industry or the hospitality industry?
A4)        The hospitality industry.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Former DJ, Paul McKenna, was born on 8th November, 1963.   He’s better remembered as a what: stage magician, stage hypnotist or an escapologist?
A5)        Stage hypnotist.
Here’s a thought …
“A scream that wakes you up, might be your own …”
Tagline from A Nightmare on Elm Street.
And a nursery rhyme …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        That said?   The M2 Mac mini I’ve got is very capable of 4k rendering.   But the new machine’s larger hard drive will be useful, and the faster processor, and double RAM, helpful.

        Hello, Mum!

I think the OT’s done me proud, Olga: she’s suggested a couple of improvements, explained what she’s going to be doing … and suggested an extra source of potential help.   My landlord’s aren’t always guaranteed to help: unless they get multiple requests … and additional offers of funding …
I do know two things.   One?   The Democrats are also complaining about vote rigging: so at least it’s non-partisan fraud!   Two?   Elon Musk sat in one of Trump’s call to President Zelenskyy.   If that’s not suspicious, I don’t know what is.
One of the Today programme’s guests described Musk as President Trump’s brain.   I’m having flash-backs to Spitting Image … and Ronnie Reagan …

Yes, it sounds like the OT did a good job and I hope her suggestions are followed up. It reminds me of the advice on the book I mentioned to you about carers, where he says we should never give up because different professionals have different sources of information, and some are more willing to share them than others.
And yes, Elon Musk is not somebody I'd trust, because he seems to have no concept of what people really need and I'm not sure he lives in the real world. (Not knowing him, I have no idea, but I get the sense that he might not be bad by design, but not having anybody tell you what is right and wrong and what you should or shouldn't do [or not listening to them if you do] can have terrible consequences, especially when you have the money to follow through your whims and crazy ideas).
