Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-9-2019: WW2 — The Anniversary

3rd September, 2019.

Now that’s a sad thing to see.

Terrance Dicks,  the former Dr Who writer, and script editor, has died at the age of eighty-four.

Having had a long career in TV: writing for many serials.

He also did something else, too.

He novelised many Dr Who episodes for Target Books, back in the day.

And got a lot of people my age, reading.

I know: I was one of them.

The first book I bought was Doctor Who and the Loch Ness Monster: his print version of Terror of the Zygons.

What CAN I tell you?

Except that Dicks will be much missed.

RIP, Terrance.

~≈§≈~

Oh, I think I’ve solved a mystery.

Or, at least, had it solved for me.

If you recall, I mentioned in yesterday’s Teaser, that there were a lot of police cars on my street: and a police forensic’s van.

It turns out the Gazette’s found out what’s happening.

It seems that — after a concern for welfare report — a man has been found dead in his flat.

That’s another sad thing to here.

I’m just wondering who that was.

~Ť~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Badwolf*, Olga†, and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with all three scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) World War 2 started on 3rd September: of which year?
Q2) It’s therefore which anniversary of the start of World War 2: the 75th, 80th or 85th?   (Careful, Olga!)
Q3) The war started when the UK declared war on which German speaking nation?
Q4) That county had two main allies: name one of those allies.
Q5) Those countries were known as the what: the Axis, Spindle or League?
Q6) The UK was one of four Allies.   The Big Four consisted of the UK, the USA, the USSR … and who else?
Q7) Neville Chamberlain announced the UK’s declaration, by radio: at 11:15.   Which government position did he hold at the time?
Q8) During the War, Ireland, Yemen, Vatican City and Switzerland were what?
Q9) Nationalist Spain didn’t formally take part in the war.   Who was its leader?
Q10) Finally … ?   Notoriously, Nazi Germany committed mass murder: against Jews, Gypsies, Freemasons, Poles and many others.   These killings are collectively known as which H?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) World War Two ended on 2nd September of which year?
A1) 1945.
Q2) It ended when Japan signed an unconditional … what?
A2) Surrender.
Q3) The documents that need the war were signed on the USS Missouri: in which city’s bay?
A3) Tokyo’s: the Bay is well known.
Q4) The documents were signed by Mamoru Shigemitsu, on behalf of the Japanese government.   He was the Japanese what: Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, or Justice Minister?
Q5) Finally … ?   The day is marked as what, in the US?
A5) It isn’t officially marked in the US: but one of the three dates known as VJ — Victory in Japan — Day.   It IS officially marked as Victory Day in Rhode Island.
Here’s a thought …
“There is a hush over all Europe, nay, over all the world … Alas! it is the hush of suspense, and in many lands it is the hush of fear.”
Winston Churchill.
And one of the best known songs of the era …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Morning, Anne!   I’ve a couple of days off: if I manage to catch a horror film, would you like the link?

†        Oh, dear, a domestic: those always seem nasty, Olga.   Turns out the Forensics van was there after someone in the building around the corner was found dead.   Quite what happened, I don’t know.   Or won’t until the Gazette publishes the full story.   I get the feeling it’ll take a while …

‡        Really?   I’d put that down to the Law of Unintended Consequences, then, Debbi!

Keep us posted on the news. And sorry about the sad news. Here, Blanca Fernández Ochoa, the first Spanish female skier to win a medal at the Olympics has gone missing, and it seems she disappeared almost a week ago, possibly in the mountains. They're searching for her but after such a long time...
