Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9-9-19: Emergency Services Day

9th September, 2019.

Right, it’s a Monday, off.

And one that’s shaping up to be quiet.

And, right now?

Right now, I’m thinking I maybe need to see something interesting on TV.

Except, of course, I’m very aware that Mr Robot, The Man in the High Castle and Dr Who, aren’t going to start for a while, yet.

That’s mildly frustrating …

And means I’ll have to see what I can dig up in the meantime …

~≈§≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Badwolf*, Olga†, and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with all three scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 9th September is Emergency Services Day, in the UK.   Name any one of the four UK emergency services.
Q2) New Scotland Yard is the HQ for the London branch of which Emergency service?   (We want the emergency service: NOT the name of the force.)
Q3) What’s the UK’s emergency phone number?
Q4) One type of Emergency services vehicle has at least one driver: and one paramedic.   Which type?
Q5) Finally … ?   How many fire brigades are there in England: 45, 47 or 49?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) Bassist, David Steele, was born on 8th September, 1960.   With which band did he first come to international fame?
A1) The Beat.   (The band’s also known as the British Beat in Australia and the USA.)
Q2) 8th September, 1987, saw the birth of rapper, Cameron Jibril Thomaz.   How is he better known?
Q3) 8th September, 1888, saw the Peral launched: on behalf of the Spanish navy.   The Peral was one of the first electric versions of what type of craft: aircraft carrier, submarine or minesweeper?
A3) Submarine.
Q4) Which dissident republican group declared a ceasefire: on 8th September, 1998?
A4) The Real IRA.
Q5) Finally … ?   8th September is Independence Day.   Where: Serbia, North Macedonia or Croatia?
Here’s a thought …
“I would like to thank everyone working in our emergency services on #999DayUK. They go above and beyond every day to help save lives and keep us safe.”
Theresa May, in a 2018 Tweet.
Along side the relevant Tweet …

And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Morning, Anne: how was the weekend … ?

†        I’ll try and keep my eyes peeled for that, Olga!   (Monday morning, and the Today programme’s just interviewed the leader of the TUC … who’s given one of the most evasive answers I’ve heard!)

‡        It kind of gets worse, Debbi: there’s a Spanish football team called Real Madrid^.   You have to wonder what that makes Atletico Madrid!   As for the Real IRA … ?   It’s all rooted in the history.   The Official IRA phased out in the lates 60s, I think.   The Provisional IRA — Gerry Adams, Martin McGuinness, et al — are around … but declared a cease fire in 1997, about the same time as the Good Friday Agreement.   The Real IRA, you’ve found out about.   There’s a splinter group calling itself the New IRA: the Wikipedia entry lists many of their activities: which are recent.   I get the impression that Brexit, and the Backstop — with it’s potential to ruin the open borders between the UK and and the Republic of Ireland — will be feeding the New IRA’s activities …

^        It’s the Spanish word for ‘royal.’   It could be worse …

Hello, the weekend was so, so, plus I'm coming down with something, Mom is starting to go out again, small trips out so that was a positive. Watched some Doctor Who classic, Jon Pertwee "Daemons and some classic Horror, then came back change the living room around, not exciting but practical. Hope your weekend went well

I saw your comment to Debby and I noticed you worked that one out. No relation, only the royal stamp of approval kind of thing. I hope you find something interesting to watch (not watching the telly much, recently).

Wow! That's something. So much being complicated by Brexit, huh?

1. fire
2. police
3. 999
4. EMS (emergency medical services)
5. 45

Did I ever tell you I used to be volunteer at the same fire station where Rick volunteered before he got his job in DC? :) I was an EMT. I thought about going into firefighting, but a combination of factors made me decide not to. :)
