Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8th September, 2019.

8th September, 2019.

Yes, it’s a Sunday.

Yes, it’s a day off.

Yes: I’m having dinner at my family’s, tonight.

And yes …

I think I’m expecting a quiet day.

He says … !

~≈¥≈~

OK … I’m expecting a quiet day.

I’ve — inevitably — got Radio Four on.

Whose new programmes have told me a few things.

What with Amber Rudd — the Work and Pensions Secretary — resigning both from her ministerial post, and as from the Conservative party.

And is considering her position as an MP, come the General Election.

I’m thinking the Johnson Administration is having a day that …

Well, not exactly quiet.

An election that’s seeing at least one Labour MP — Paul Farrelly — announce he’ll be standing down as an MP.

The day’s also seen former Labour MP, Angela Smith, join the Liberal Democrats*.

Quiet possibly isn’t the word …

~≈¥≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Badwolf†, Olga‡, and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with all three scoring ten out of ten.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) Bassist, David Steele, was born on 8th September, 1960.   With which band did he first come to international fame?
Q2) 8th September, 1987, saw the birth of rapper, Cameron Jibril Thomaz.   How is he better known?
Q3) 8th September, 1888, saw the Peral launched: on behalf of the Spanish navy.   The Peral was one of the first electric versions of what type of craft: aircraft carrier, submarine or minesweeper?
Q4) Which dissident republican group declared a ceasefire: on 8th September, 1998?
Q5) Finally … ?   8th September is Independence Day.   Where: Serbia, North Macedonia or Croatia?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 7th September saw the birth of director, Dario Argento.   In which year?
A1) 1940.
Q2) He’s from which country … ?
A2) Italy.
Q3) He’s well known for films in a sub-genre of horror: called what?
A3) Giallo.   (The word is the Italian word for ‘yellow.’)
Q4) What was the name of Argento’s directorial debut?
Q5) Name any of Argento’s Three Mothers movies.
Q6) Argento worked with Bernardo Bertolucci: on which 1968, Sergio Leone film?
Q7) On one 1978, George A. Romero film, Argento was both a producer: and collaborated on the soundtrack.   Which Romero film are we talking about?
Q8) He co-owns a horror memorabilia store: at Via dei Gracchi 260, in Rome.   What’s that shop called?
Q9) It’s named after which Argento film?
A9) Deep Red: known, in Italian, as Profundo rosso.   (There’s a mild irony: the film’s a giallo.)
Q10) Finally … ?   The 1987 Argento film, Opera, is set in a theatre: showing which Verde opera?
A10) MacBeth.   (Ahem!.)
Here’s a thought …
“Most actors are either a shower of bloody scruffs or think they should dress like Hamlet off stage.”
Martin Freeman, born 8 September 1971.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Speaking as a former Liberal Democrat voter?   I’ve not voted for them since the Coalition.   The fact a lot of disgruntled former Labour and Conservative MPs have defected to them … is something that’s not encouraging me to vote for them.   The Lib-Dems aren’t a party of MPs convinced of Liberal values.   It’s a party for people pissed off at their old party.

†        Cheers for looking in, Anne: hope the weekend’s going well!   (Actually, I’ve never seen an Argento movie: I really should start!)

‡        I know Mark Gatiss did an interview with Argento for his A History of Horror a few years ago, Olga.   Which is where I heard about Argento’s shop, I should add!   And you’re right about the name.   It’s those great big, rolling Italian R’s!   As for the job interview … well … what can I tell you … ?   There’s a few questions, there … (OK, I think it was Argento’s expression that got me thinking of Pope Francis.   I don’t think Argento’s ever been stuck in a lift, though.   Stephen Fry has … )

^        Feel free to use the paraphrase as a blog headline, Debbi!   I might do it, myself.   Mind you, I like the Terry Pratchett one I’ve got!   As for the interview … ?   I’ve had better!   You know, it occurred to me, yesterday: the reason the woman who was supposed to interview me, didn’t … was because she wanted to avoid any awkward questions** … !   Here’s hoping I hear back from the HR department t, I’d love to hear their story!

**        If anyone can do awkward questions …

Q2) Wiz Khalifa
Q3) Submarine!

Must check the interview up. I know what you mean about The Lib Dem. A friend of mine is a convinced local MP for the party so I have some sympathy for them but I get your point. I've just finished reading a book that I think you'd enjoy, and they mention Terry Pratchett... (Not a fiction title) I'll share the link to my blog post when it comes up in a couple of weeks.
