Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-7-2020: Live Aid

13th July, 2020.

Just so you know … ?

I sent off the piece I’ve written for Phoenix FM: last night.

When it goes live?

I don’t know: but as soon as it is, I intend to post a link, here.

We’ll just have to wait and see.

~≈†≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with Olga scoring ten out of ten And Debbi on nine.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) Today is the 35th anniversary of the original Live Aid concert.   In other words, it was on 13th July of which year?
Q2) It was organised — in part — by Bob Geldof.   At the time, Geldof was the lead singer for which band?
Q3) The US end of the concert was held in Philadelphia.   The UK end, in London.   In which football ground?
Q4) The concert was organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure: after they’d organised a charity single in 1984.   What was the name of that single?
Q5) The concert raised money to help ease a famine: in which African nation … ?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 12th July saw the birth of activist, Malala Yousafzai.   In which year?
A1) 1997.
Q2) Notably?   Malala’s an activist who supports what: girl’s education, equal rights, or vegetarianism?
Q3) She first came to prominence, blogging about education: during the First Battle of where?
A3) The First Battle of Swat.
Q4) In which language: English, Urdu or Pashto?
A4) Urdu.
Q5) She went by a pseudonym that meant what: rosebud, cornflower or thistle?
A5) Cornflower.   (Indeed, the Malala biopic is called Gul Makai: it’s the Urdu word for ‘cornflower’.)
Q6) She was shot, in 2012, in an effort to stop her.   By which group?
A6) The Afghan Taliban.
Q7) Malala reveres both Benazir Bhutto and Muhammed Ali Jinnah.   Both were prominent in Malala’s home country.   Which country is that?
A7) Pakistan.
Q8) Malala’s an honorary citizen of which North American country?
A8) Canada.
Q9) Her most recent book was published in 2018.   It’s about whom?
Q10) Finally … ?   Malala’s complete her exams, this year.   At which Oxford University college?
Here’s a thought …
“Fuck the address, let’s get the [phone] numbers.”
Bob Geldof, doing a particularly frantic appeal.
And a concert‡ …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        I’m keeping my fingers crossed for it, Olga: the big concern, at the moment, is simply the money.   I’m not too sure who pays the bus fares for it: me, them, the Job Centre or Harry the Happy Potato.   Frankly, the Job Centre’s a better payer!   At ANY rate … ?   If the thing came help find a job or training … ?   I’m laughing … !   (Hmmm … Digital photography?   Possibly not me: mind you, if they were offering Final Cut and some training …)
Cheers for The video, by the way: I’ll sit in with them, latter.

†        It certainly helps, Debbi!   I know Bob Geldof possibly needed one … … !

‡        Quo played a blinder, back then, as they always did: plus, of course, Rockin’ All Over the World was possibly the only song you could open Live Aid with.   The Beach Boys were the only US act who seemed to know what they were doing.   Madonna?   Has possibly given better performances: but proved exactly how savvy a business woman she is, in deciding to play.   Bob’s own band?   Played VERY well: the version of I Don’t Like Mondays on the day, was something else.   The real star of Live Aid … ?   The ones that played the gig of a life time … ?   The ones that turned themselves into icons in the space of twenty minutes?   Queen: Freddie had the planet eating out of his hand.    Eeeeeyy-ooh!

Yes, let's hope it all works out one way or another. And keep us posted as well on the radio piece. People seem much more responsive and interested at a local level (probably because you're bound to bump into people day in and day out and you know who they are. They aren't just numbers).
You're right about Queen and Live Aid, of course. :)
