Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8th July, 2020.

8th July, 2020.

OK: occasionally get earworms: songs that play around my head.

Today … ?

It’s the (EXPLICIT WARNING) David Bowie tune, Girl Loves Me.

Possibly the only song I know written — at least partially — in the constructed slanguage, Nadsat.

And possibly the only song I’ve heard that answers the eternally baffling, philosophical question.

“Where the ƒ*©˚ did Monday go … ?”

~≈†≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with all three scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) The first test — or International — match between the Australian Wallabies and the South African Springboks was played on 8th July, 1933.   What were they playing: Association Football, Rugby Union, Rugby League or American Football?
Q2) 8th July, 1968, saw the birth of actor, Billy Crudup.   Who did he play, in the film, Watchmen?
Q3) 8th July, 1934, saw the birth of actor and comedian, Marty Feldman.   He final film role was as Gilbert: in which 1983 movie?
Q4) Ronnie Biggs escaped from HMP Wandsworth: on 8th July, 1965.   When were the gallows at HMP Wandsworth’s dismantled?
Q5) Finally?   8th July, 1497, saw Vasco da Gama begin the world’s first ocean voyage from Europe … to where?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 7th July saw Elvis make his radio debut: in which year?
A1) 1954.
Q2) On a radio station in which US city?
Q3) Was that an AM or FM station?
A3) AM: it was called WHBQ.
Q4) Which Elvis record was played?
A4) That’s Alright, Mama.   (It’s usually just called That’s Alright.)
Q5) Finally … ?   The song was originally written and performed by whom: BB King, Arthur Crudup or Blind Lemon Jefferson 1st?
A5) Arthur Crudup.   (No relation to Billy Crudup.)
Here’s a thought …
“The pen is mightier than the sword, and is considerably easier to write with.”
Marty Feldman, 8 July 1934 – 2 December 1982.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Morning, Trevor: how damp IS it out there … ?

†        I know What you mean, Olga: I don’t use a mobile for much: bar calls, texts, social media … and the occasional game of Tetris!   And, yes, you’re right: I’d not mind an iPhone.   If for no other reason than the fact it would play well with my Mac: far better than my Android^ phone.   Plus, they have a reputation for lasting.
I do tend to take more photos than some: so having a smart mobile’s handy.   And, if I want to tell someone about a shop they’d find handy, or I see a job in a shop window?   The camera’s a handy way of keeping track of that.
Actually, the phone came in handy, selling the laptop: the buyer wanted photos.
Nice to hear about the paint: it might be a cheap way of helping.
Oh … I checked on the mast: we get updated on Monday, 13th July.   Wouldn’t you know it … ?

‡        I try, Debbi, I try!   I still haven’t found that rat.  (Did I mention I’m reading this?   It’s interesting stuff: I’m looking forward to the bit about stilsuits!)

^        Although, in all fairness?   The Huawei I have isn’t too bad: the onboard software’s generally play well with macOS.   (What it would do with the version of Catalina on a Mac with the new chips?   I don’t know.)

Yes it was a little damp out there. I had to wear a raincoat (a Mack)when I went for my paper at 08.00.

Yes, it's handy for some things, but most of those have nothing to do with it being a phone. I like to be off the radar, not necessarily for privacy reasons but because I like peace and quiet and I'm not a big fan of distractions. I had looked at a Huawei a while back, and I'm wondering about Xiaomi as well (I have one of their fitness bands, which I found on the street, and it's the easiest and has the longest battery of any I've tried over the years. And yes, the fact that it was free also helped, but I had some bought ones whose battery hardly lasted a day and this one goes on for a month or more, even when connected to the ubiquitous phone). At least it's Monday the 13th (in Spain Tuesday 13th is the unlucky day).
