The Today programme is discussing Brexit … and, of course, Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s plan to give businesses a £1000 bonus … for each furloughed worker they’s retained by January, 2021.

Which is a good move.

But … ?

Well, I can see the big flaw, from over here.

It give businesses an incentive to retain furloughed staff.

But no incentives to hire someone like me.

It’s probably going to win Mr Sunak some votes.

It won’t give him mine.

*        Trevor, you can’t go wearing Debbi in this weather, she’ll get drenched … !   I have to admit, I knew there’s issues with Wikipedia’s timelines: I always try and mention them on the talk pages, where I can.   (The online version of Encyclopædia Britannica is even less help: it has an article Wandsworth, which only mentions the prison, once.)

†        I know exactly what you mean, Olga!   Mobiles would be a fantastic way of keeping in touch … if it wasn’t for the fact they let you keep in touch!

And, yes: Xiaomi do have a good reputation.   Not that I’ve seen them in the shops, much, but there we go!   Going by what I’ve seen?   O2 — Telefónica, in other words — must have a deal with Huawei: they seem to have a lot of their handsets going on offer, and nothing from Xiaomi!

(I’ve just had a poke around.   Apple are charging £419 for a 64gb iPhone SE.   Which is cheap for Apple.   O2 aren’t saying how much they’re charging.   I’ve got a funny feeling O2 will be charging double … )
